If a company is closing there is zero reason (other than the legal requirements of bankruptcy proceedings - and I don't think EiEN is bankrupt) to not give away the IPs for free - other than malice. It is a truly evil thing to do and has no benefit other than joy at making things more difficult for your former employees.
Heavenrend are so irrelevant nobody even noticed they closed and didn't let their 2 remaining talents keep their IPs.
