>I just think that if we can like figure out things like subatomic particles, wouldn't we be able to figure out ghosts by now?
>we can like figure out things like subatomic particles
Holy kek she really is a redditor.
>>
>>89623031
Yes anon, we have basically "figured out" how most of the standard model works, although there's still a lot we don't know about sub atomic particles.
That being said, what she said makes sense: if ghosts were real, we probably would have discovered some form of scientific evidence for it by now.
>>
>>89623257
>if ghosts were real, we probably would have discovered some form of scientific evidence for it by now.
Nigga how can there be scientific evidence for something we don't even have a clear operational definition of?
>>

thats how you tell the difference between real scientists and popscience consumer pseuds. scientists have open minds about what can potentially exist, and strive to investigate for evidence. nondiscovery is not evidence against existence
>>
>>89623031
I was thinking that, but then she rejected the existence of aliens. Scientistic redditors who think they know everything after watching Carl Sagan are obsessed with aliens despite there being as much evidence for their existence as there is for ghosts. So she's at least consistent in her skepticism.

It's straight out of the Bible though
Among the spirits not on earth or in heaven, only demons have the authority to wander the surface of the world
To meet with the dead you'd need to do specific things, they're not just going to be standing around or whatever, and besides, it's a sin to talk to the dead
>>
>>89624432
What do you mean by physical? The vast majority of sociology and psychology deals with nonphysical phenomenon. Quantum mechanics also has a branch of thought that considers the universe is just a model of energy fields, and nothing is a particle
>>
>Your mind can be easily manipulated by punches, chemicals, being too sleepy, having bits of it blown off, drinking one (1) bottle of onions milk, psychological torture, birth defect, and so on, so forth.
>But trust me dude it getting eaten up by maggots when you die actually won't do anything to it.
It's really hard to believe in a spirit. That said I have the wishful thinking for the christian god to be real, no other religion produced something as beautiful as Jesus
>>
>>89623764
>>89623980
You're mischaracterizing what she said. You're correct that you don't use absence of evidence as evidence of absence, but after hundreds of years searching for something specific, you'd expect to dicover at least some form of evidence at all if you assume the existence of that thing is in any way meaningful to, or affects, the observable reality in which we find ourselves. There's a reason we're not still searching for Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Eternal Youth anymore. And just like with ghosts, absence of evidence is also not evidence of the fountain of youth's non-existence, but for some strange reason, many superstitious third worlders still believe in the former, but not the latter.

I'm saying the reason you believe in things like souls or gods or ghosts is because you were told about them by other people. That's faith, not science. And that's fine if that brings you comfort or morals or whatever, but scientifically speaking, as in, what Fauna was talking about, there's no reason to believe those things exist any more than there is to believe in Thetans and Dianetics.

Christianity is the most open religion, the price of your sins was already paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross
To be Christian you need to believe the following
1. You have sin and because of your sin you deserve to die, for the wages of sin are death, even if you've only told 1 lie in your life
2. Jesus paid the price of of your sins already, and He could do that because He was sent by God and because He was God
Once you do that you can start learning more about God and you should start reading the Bible! God will strengthen your faith and will reveal Himself if you ask and have faith
The requirement of entry into heaven are perfection and sinlessness, it's impossible for us, but God doesn't count on us not stumbling and is instead patient with us
If you have faith in the Lord and start desiring righteous then your unrighteousness will not be accounted in your name, but in the name of your sin! The Lord God will be with you always, in fact, He already is with you! It is written that He never leaves your side
God bless

>Define evidence. What counts as evidence?
Repeatable, observable interactions or the effects of such theorized interactions upon measurable reality.
For instance, we don't understand dark matter or the mechanism with which it interacts with matter, but we can indirectly observe its effect on the formation and structure of galaxies. So while dark matter itself is not "operationally defined", as you say, the concept and its observable effects are very real and well understood.

>>89627541
No, retarded brainlet. A scientific theory is formed through rigorous testing and peer review and one of the requirements is to make predictions using models and then testing those models. That's how we even know about dark matter. It's simply the word we use to describe the mass that is required to hold galaxies together, because without it, galaxies would break apart from their own angular momentum under our previous models of galaxy formation.

So it's unknown what dark matter is, and whether it's even matter at all. It could simply be a result of some poorly understood part of our understanding of the theory of gravity at large scales, but its effects are observable and the mathematics behind it has been used to predict additional obsevations, which have come true. This makes it a well-supported scientific theory.
This is the opposite of religion, which makes no testable predictions, has no method of performing critical analysis, cannot evolve or adapt or correct itself, and whose tenants and ideas about unexplained phenomena cannot be tested in any meaningful way, i.e "it's magic". Science is not religion or faith based. Only an uneducated simpleton that doesn't understand what science is would say something like this.

Uhh... yeah?
Did you think this was a gotcha, you imbecile?
One of the key differences between science and religion is that science and scientific models are reworked to adapt to new observations and data. While Newtonian physics are able to describe most physical motion at human scales, it falls apart at extremely large cosmological scales or extremely small quantum scales. That doesn't mean our understanding of physics was wrong, just that it was incomplete. And it still is, but the ability to adapt models and then make predictions with those models sets it apart from religion. This is why Einstein was able to predict the effects of time dilation on GPS satellites nearly sixty years before they were even invented. You're phone and computer would not fucking work today if they were built using faith-based, religious principles.

So what? My point was that being religious has no effect on one's ability to be a famous scientist, and that famous scientists being religious is moreso because 99.9% of the population was religious at the time and would execute you if you weren't.
Isaac Newton was religious because his parents were religious, his peers were religious and his society was religious. If he were born into a Hindu, Muslim, or athiest society, he would have likely believed in that instead.

Amazing how this manages to be the most retarded statement in a thread discussing the existence of ghosts.

There are countless examples of the masses being absolutely retarded and the majority being factually wrong.

It would be funnier if he haunted her left buttcheek and made it extra itchy whenever she's streaming

I'll break it down for you, friend.
This post: >>89634994 was referring to the people posting in this thread. This anon: >>89635176 responded by stating that many Asians believe in ghosts. The implication of this is that a large portion of the anons criticizing Fauna for not believing in ghosts are Asians, who tend to be more superstitious than Westerners.
By claiming that Asians have the highest average IQ out of any race, this anon >>89636860 is implying that believing in ghosts is intelligent and rational. This logic is faulty because it does not distinguish East Asians, who do have the highest average IQs, from Southeast Asians, whose IQs are significantly lower. We all know that a large portion of this board's posters are Southeast Asians. Therefore, the anons in this thread who believe in ghosts are most likely below-average IQ Filipinos and Indonesians.

No one really talked about religion, but it seems Bae genuinely believes in ghosts/spirits and believes her ancestors as looking out for her.

I'm also pretty sure any of the Korean vtubers have a good chance of being religious, in the sense that Korea has a LOT of cults.
>>
>>89634253
Anon there's an entire board dedicated to summoning demons for the purpose of fucking them, what do you think?
>>
>>89624741
To be fair, living things are really efficient in a way that haven't been reproduced; there's likely something that can't be seen like spirits keeping living things together.

I believe in ghosts. They just can't be measured empirically because they're basically hallucinations. But I have a weird view of hallucinations and dreams, because their existence is accepted but no one can tell what form of "existence" are they
>>
>>89641565
What the fuck are you even saying?
>>
>>89627937
On the other hand, there is no reason why one can't be religious as a scientist, unless you consider religion to literally only be the church's dogmas.

A religious person might just as well consider science to be a method for deepening his understanding and appreciation of God's works.

But of course in modern America everything is overly politicized and any nuance in thinking is completely lost.
>>
Ghosts aren't real.
But demons are real and may pretend to be ghosts. Also 'aliens' are demons.

>A religious person might just as well consider science to be a method for deepening his understanding and appreciation of God's works.

>>
>>89642935
>That is literally how modern science started.
Yep. And nothing wrong with that. If you investigate stuff using the scientific method, that's science. Where it goes wrong is if you get mired in too much Church-like institutional bullshittery forcing you to look the other way, instead of studying actual reality.

>>89633617
And this shit is just as bad. Using ((science)) to shroud the truth and further an agenda is why the public loses trust and it shows a total disrespect for both science and creation both. But humans are gonna be humans I guess.

Anon just because we haven't been able to confirm what the answer to the paradox is doesn't mean it doesn't have answers.
If fauna believes in it then she hasn't thought far beyond the basics which is why I'm disappointed.
The answer to the paradox is obvious. We're not evolved enough as a species to find it.
