Corporate vtubers cost almost no money to run beyond a first investment of maybe a couple thousand dollars and a salary which you can skimp on due to the nature of the job akin to any other tip-focused job. Management is also a salary, the office rental and bills are the biggest chunk of the cost (studio's too but I'm not quite sure if it fits more into overhead or business expenses by default) however there is one thing you need to understand that keeps my argument of "almost no overhead costs" afloat.

What was Hololive creating for most of its life? No, seriously. What are they making? An app that's only used internally? A shitty table tennis game? What are the production costs of anything Cover has done for a majority of its lifespan? Barring the mistake that is Holoearth, almost none. Compare that to any other field outside of the tech sector and it might as well be rounded down to zero, and compare that within the tech sector and instead you have people creating things for commercial use, AKA things that cost significantly more than the Hololive app. Cover's not paying for the rent or travel expenses of it's employees, their website is incredibly low-profile and their service is exclusively on websites they don't own or need to pay for (barring voice packs which literally pay for themselves in minutes) meaning costs are kept to a low, there's nothing they have to fix or otherwise engage with customers for on almost any level, and Japanese insurance has some pretty good government coverage so I've heard, so if I'm wrong this is also a major expense. So where is the overhead here? The studio, the vtubers, the employees, the office, arguably their website and and possibly insurance coverage. That's it.

There is serious fat to be trimmed at Cover, jabs at member you don't like aside, because vtubing is inherently a significantly low-cost job.

Rent is a big part of overhead. They also have to pay for songs that they are singing. Corporate vtubers have way more overhead compared to Indies as they are likely doing more things above board less scuffed as far as legal is concerned.

The reason people would be part of an agency vs Indie is because you are drawing a pay check vs subsisting only on tips it protects against the big fluctuations also why they are likely to fire a talent if they are under performing but no idea what if any those metrics are.
