CS major vs literally Pipkin Pippa whose opinion do you respect more
>>
>>92943911
CS major here. I regret so much having studied this. I should have studied Math or Physics, I hate AI and computers
>>
>>92943911
And this is when you remember that Pippa LITERALLY created an entire vtuber corp in one night using AI and has done paid streams to shill AI generators and your rrat that she hates AI dies instantly.
>>
>>92943911
The cope that Neuro isn't the same thing as a lot of the AI stuff people hate on is just sad. You can admit you make an exception because you like the developer, but to pretend Neuro isn't a form of generative AI is just lying to yourself. I think a lot of vtubers don't want to admit they make an exception for Neuro because they're outvoted by the larger community and know it's popular so they just act like it's somehow different

Neuro's also not taking anyone's job and a huge portion of her content is human

it's a subtle jab. convenient timing to talk about people who seem to very vocal about how they hate generative AI everything and shit like that who make exceptions for chatbots that use generative AI when there's a whole argument being made from people who are very vocal about how they hate generative AI everything and shit like that trying to make excuses for a chatbot that uses generative AI. Jelly doesn't care either way, but it is a trend worth calling out.
>>
>>92945455
The thing is that Neuro has more effort put into her than the great majority of vtubers, so if Jelly is salty about it it just says a lot about her, and Jelly as a codefag should know better that Neuro isn't just "chatgpt with a TTS", she is really well made for an AI and has had huge offers on her code

Jelly isn't hating on Neuro though. If you look in the replies of the tweet she even says she doesn't even really mind AI shit. She's talking about the fervent anti-AI people who will have the whole spiel memorized about why AI is bad and vehemently get mad about that stuff, but then find a generative AI thing they like and jump through hoops to act like it's different and they're not a hypocrite for liking it and defending it.

Nope. Both trained on the works of others. Both cost GPU power to run. I'm extremely tired of hypocrite artists that hate on AI art and then go and spend hours talking to AI chatbots.
>>
>>92946272
gross oversimplification. they train in vastly different ways. text AI understands language, image AI only understands tagged imagesets and pastes it together.
>>
>>92943911
Pippa's opinion is literally whatever will get her more engagement. The vtubers suddenly saying they love Neuro are just riding a fad. 6 months from now when Vedal gets canceled they'll pretend they never liked AI. It's such a fucking joke. These women have no convictions or morals whatsoever.

>>
>>92943911
Neither. Both are wrong. I would fail the CS major and ignore Pippa. Mostly because Pippa can be forgiven for being ignorant, but the CS major should know better and shouldn't huff their own farts for likes from the uneducated masses.
Besides that CS isn't the correct major to study the full breadth and depth of AI as a field. Many of the ignorant are unaware that AI has been a major unto itself for decades in some colleges. You're either lucky to study at a college with a full and varied undergrad AI major, or your opinion doesn't count until you do a master or PhD in AI. Otherwise, your option to study AI as an undergraduate seems to be CS, but only through ignorance, a class or two, and possibly a minor. It's about as good as a Psy major taking an AI specialization. On the other hand, CS majors are more primed to draw incorrect conclusions due to having no real experience with fields that actually study things related to intelligence and cognition. That's why you end up getting guys like that Google engineer that graduated as a software engineer thinking that his chatbot is literally conscious and deserves personhood.
>>
>>92946880
now if they could add a tag specifically for ai. sometimes a man wants to jack off to ai slop

explain text translators and interpreters then. they know the context of the language they are working with and can even direct inflections based on the emotion of the text.

train an AI with only pictures of perfect circles and it will produce an elipse, it needs to be spoonfed what it sees even when given a perfect dataset.

False equivalence.
Let me put it this way: the way AI is used in many context is like when videogame developers just discovered random level generation and started putting it everywhere at the cost of actual level design, making the whole game feel samey and repetitive.
Neuro sama instead is the equivalent of random level generation being used alongside actual handcrafted level design to create an actually good experience.
>>
>>92946927

chatgpt doesn't learn on the fly from user input, as far as i know. the model is trained on existing datasets on one of the world's fastest supercomputers
>but humanity is too retarded and the average IQ of the population probably dropped since chatGPT became a thing
"chatgptbabies" will definitely become a thing. especially kids, who will have grown up with something that effectively thinks for them. i dunno, i'm a bit skeptical of the doomasyers. people still think openai is trying for movie level super intelligence, but all they're actually defining "AGI" as is an ai system that makes the 100 billy
>>
>>92943911
Hi, person with a functioning frontal cortex here, Ai isn't bad and anyone who thinks it's "stealing art" are complete retards who has no clue about human psychology or how "unique" ideas are formed. The shit is literally just a Mish mash and constant reconfiguring of things you've seen in your life to create something out of bits and pieces of those things to form an idea. Sounds a lot like how Ai used bits and pieces from images to make something new doesn't it? Artists, you have never and will never own poses or colors.
>>
>>92944115
I specifically avoided CS despite wanting to do programming, since it's not actually the kind of programming focus I was looking for. I also wanted to do computer hardware stuff, by my nearby uni didn't have such a program. So I went to a community college that had a 2 year AAS for programming.
I think 80% of the other people going through that degree didn't enjoy programming but wanted to get in on the money of it. It was annoying because the curriculum had to constantly be adjusted each term to account for more than half the class being incapable of grasping things.
That said I found the other uni in my state had Electrical Computer Engineering degrees a couple years later, started on that, and then covid happened 2 years in when I was reaching all the courses that were lab focused. Couldn't do anything, dropped out, but found a job a year later that pays well. At least that shit happened before I had to waste time on most of the forced liberal arts courses they put into the degrees these days.
>>
>>92947470
>the average IQ of the population probably dropped since chatGPT became a thing

Humans also became weaker after cars were invented since they didn't need to carry things for long distances. Any tech construct produces weakness in humans.
That's fine. Assimilation is the end goal.
>>
>>92947644
Computers have perfect memories. If I could remember a novel, and type it back out word for word, call myself the author and sell the book that would be considered stealing. There's already papers demonstrating llms doing just that.
>>
>>92947757
the thing is that this one kinda hinders progress

Honestly, as someone who uses LLMs to do my work I see the situation like idSoftware's reason to open source the doom engine back in the 90s: "(paraphrasing) If others can do a better job, we deserve to fail."
However the absolute worse part is how AI will be used solely to generate profit because it was invested too much. The sheer amount of drinkable water used, not only for data centers in deserts, not only to produce the energy but to produce the components will be felt. It's propped up by the same people that propped up crypto and those deluded that "AGI" is feasible in our lifetimes are idiots.
Recently large companies want to implement bots that resemble people just to brag to investors how much engagement seemingly exists on their platform. People will FEEL heard, but won't BE heard. Pic rel, offers some sort of insight on how it would go down, it's just that you won't choose which type of AI follower you get, an algorithm based on your engagement will decide to.
The increasing amount of spam on youtube by people trying to make a quick buck already starts to be exhausting. And with google's track record maybe they'll remove the filtering search as well, you know, "before:2023".
AI was fun when it was used for shitposting:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUuA8lCmN5Q
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHZUO_bQD6g&t=397s

Also to be on topic, no AI won't replace actual artists and Vtubers, people will always desire other people.

It's all about profit maximisation, globalisation happened because foreigners living in mud huts work for less than native employees, the second a robot becomes cheaper than that is when they get replaced too. I don't disagree with you, that some endeavors might appear like a waste of time but in actuality it pushes our understanding forward. However it's different when compared to other activities like, embarking to explore America in the 1400s or the Moon some 50 years ago, exploring new lands or completely different environments always yields the possibility of something new.
My best hope for AI is that it becomes an accessible tool like the smartphone, with uses such as helping in finding cancer or speeding up work, and not a tool that will dumb things down for the lowest denominator like the smartphone.

>>
>>92944115
Math major here, I am the exact reverse of you; after college I self-studied CS in order to get a CS-related job (probably in AI)
What do you want to use math for, academic research? If you wanted to be a statistician your CS knowledge would get you into data science or analytics; there's actuary math which is boring as shit, if you want to go into finance you need way more finance-specific knowledge
The point is math is foundational, unless you wanted to pursue research (and be strapped into academia which is a lame way to live imo) then you're probably better off with a degree that actually gets you jobs; if you're passionate about math then it might be better just getting textbooks and studying on your own time, college really doesnt help much
