Kawaii and Prism were owned by two megacorps for whom those model costs were a mere fraction of their daily income. That's just my rrat though because I know big corpos are usually greedy fucks, but they certainly could afford to just take the hit and carry on as if nothing ever happened. We have no idea what fatcat's (or his unnamed shareholder's) plan is. Maybe he's trying to extort the girls in a desperate attempt to liquidate, or he's gonna try to sell the models off to some clueless schmuck on the other side of the planet. No idea, just rrats.

If I had to guess a difference, it's debt. Wherever they released models, it was probably already a long dead thing behind the scenes and financers made peace with their losses. Can't do that if someone has an axe at your neck expecting to be repaid

This is what I would expect too. The anon mentioning taxes earlier was probably wrong because I don't think Pixel has ever made a profit as a corpo. I would be surprised if they even recuperated the costs of their debuts in a given a year. It's far more likely that either a private or institutional investor/lender on the project decided it doesn't have a solid path to profitability and is trying to liquidate it to recuperate

You can't compare Prism to any other corpos, maybe not even Kawaii. They were an anomaly. Not only did they let them keep the IPs, they even gave them chibi models and in some cases even second outfits as a goodbye gift. And helped some girls release original songs and promoted them, while they already knew they were going to be axed. Seriously, fuck sony
