Because they're more expendable than you realize. Cover lost easily the top 2 JP earners in the company in the span of a couple years and it made no difference. EN has already recovered from the loss of Ame and Fauna will likely be the same way in a month or so. This has all taken place without the widespread fan revolt that Nijisanji experienced. Hololive fans are, for the most part, still loyal to Hololive as a unit.As with pretty much any group of people, there are vanishingly few members of that group that the group cannot do without. The less important you are, the less leverage you have to enact change and get what you want. The longer you don't get what you want, the more disgruntled you become and the more likely you are to go somewhere where you will be more important.

Vtuber companies have all the flaws of idol companies but are even more arrogant. When management owns everything related to a vtuber they have little reason to compromise. If a vtuber leaves Hololive or Nijisanji they lose their model, channel, and can't even say they worked for that company. That doesn't give much of a reason for management to compromise since they literally can replace their talents.
