It was a calm morning, near the launchpad of the Stel Reguretto SpaceAZ complex. The seabeavers gnawed calmly at the cyan mangrove bushes carpeting the beautiful beach. Low and growing in intensity, the rumble of the day's spaceship being rolled out to the pad spooked the rodents, who skittered back into the ocean.
She was beautiful. The vessel, an AZKirianne-XII, was covered in black ceramic tiles interspersed with glowing pink runes. Ribbons of blue-white vapor cascaded heavily from the exposed parts of the cooling system, from whence a subtly different shade of pink was glimmering. At the bottom, the six thrusters of the first stage awaited their signal with bated breath, ready to deliver skull-numbing starfire to the area once their time came.
The carriage retreated back to the safety of the hangar, some hundreds of yards away. A deathly silence fell upon the idyllic scene. Then, a crystal clear voice resounded from a voice amplifier.
>十、
>九、
>八、
Satori squeezed her sister's hand. Unlike most spectators here, she wasn't concerned for herself. The launch viewing area was kilometers away and up-orbit from the site. If the most catastrophic chuubic cascade occurred, they were far enough that not even the fastest chunks of shrapnel would endanger them. No, what was garroting her heart in this moment was the one sitting in the ship.
>七、
>六、
>五、
Her husband, the pride of the Pioneer nation, and the #1 source of stress of her life. Every time he promised her he was retiring to a comfier role, there was "one more op" to do, "one more prototype" to test-fly. She damned those AZKineers who kept coming up with new magical baubles to gamble her love's life with.
>四、
>三、
>二、
A blue flash roared to life under the rocket. In an instant, a furious plume of grey-blue exhaust raged horizontally out of the launchpad.
>一,
>GUESSU!
Down went the AZKirianne's shackles, and the tyranny of gravity over man was no more, for just her brave pilots. She rose up, slowly at first, and then faster and faster, leaving a growing column of shimmering smoke beneath. The furious sound of the screaming thrusters battered the audience, almost painful even at this long distance.
Ever so gently, the black needle angled herself sideways, curving her accelerating trajectory to the heavens towards her desired orbit. Soon, the engines could be seen from beneath; the five engines arranged around the central one formed a brilliant blue star of blue-hot magical plasma from this angle.
She flew straight and true. The launch, the most unreliable part of the mission, was a success. Her fellow watchers yelled and cheered at the new star the pioneers had just sent to join the firmament. Satori, on the other hand, put her palm against her chest and felt her beating heart calm down as she grew surer of her husband's safety. Each of these occasions had to age her a whole year...

Archive under the Exiled Sanallite in /vt/ lore.

Tonight I will spending my last night sleeping in the escape shuttle. The shuttle has been moved to inside of the library vault. It's not a farfetched feat. The shuttle is about the size of a shipping container found on the back of trucks in the station. Or in context to this world it's as long as four hooded wagons. The arbiter, who's also the head librarian, is quite amazed at how compact the living quarters are inside. She writes down notes. "So the toilet is also the shower, which is also the sink, which is next to the kitchen. The bed is literally right beside the kitchen. And there's no steering or cockpit?" I respond, "correct. This is an exhile's ship. It is designed to land on an inhabitable planet with thirty days of supplies. And that's it." The woman adjusts her glasses then says, "would explain why there's no windows or an accessible computer." I say "the computer is bricked. All data and programs are to be self-deleted upon landing. I'm left with only a survival guide for information. The one which you confiscated."

The woman sighs. "Apologies for all the secrecy and mistreatment. If we've known you were an exiled Sanallite from another world then we would have-" I cut her off. "No need to apologize. You have done what was necessary. I could have been a murderous psychopath for all you have known." The woman smiles and says "true, but from the Sanallite reports I've read murderous psychopaths are executed via airlock." I fold my arms. "I see..."

The woman closes her notebook. "My name is Laia Page. I am the head librarian and arbiter as you know. I'll be studying the shuttle and survival guide. If I have any questions I will summon you." "Well met Ms. Page," says I. "I'd introduce myself but I have no name." Laia adjusts her glasses. "I see. You will have a name soon. For now I think it's best if you sleep in this wonderfully air-conditioned ship for tonight. We're arranging your living quarters tomorrow."

Laia quickly leaves the shuttle. I close the door, take a shower, and prepare my last favorite meal ration, mushroom risotto with bread rolls. Then I lay down in my cot and quickly fall asleep. I understand I will have no space age luxury after today. It's going to be nothing but hard work from here on.
>>

Maybe some of the regulars didn't notice there was a new thread up after the last one died... But I agree, so let's get some discussion going!

Wow, it's been 3 whole years since founder made a thread on a whim for mapping out /vt/ as its own little world, and what a ride it's been! /inf/ territory disputes, the rise and fall of Nue, timeloops over canals, the great forest annexation, the quantum-nuclear nature of chuubanite, Pomerlane's insane output, the trifleet, /rumina/'s cataclysm and subsequent migration across the sea, provincing the map, the /soc/ era, a space AU, rebranding as /log/, coming back from hiatus to create Viti, adventures on Lorelei Isle, and making joshu cosplays.

What have been some of your favorite memories from your time in /vtwbg/? Check out the first couple threads for some blasts from the past or take a look at the Vitubia archive to read some old stories and tell us what you think.

I think this was it

Once upon a midnight dreary,
Amidst the stars so bright and eerie,
A Sanalite's life did end,
And to the stars they did ascend.

The mourners gathered, dressed in black,
As the body lay in its casket,
The priest performed the sacred rite,
Guiding the soul to cosmic light.

The coffin burned and turned to ash,
As the mourners watched in solemn flash,
The ashes spread upon the land,
Of the planet they had once manned.

But something strange did then occur,
As the mourners turned to departure,
A shimmering shape did start to form,
Of a dog-like figure in the storm.

And then another, and yet another,
Until the night sky was aflutter,
With spectral dogs all around,
Guiding the soul to holy ground.

The mourners gazed up at the sight,
As the dogs danced in the starry light,
A new Starchild had been born,
Their journey to the cosmos dawned.

And so the mourners left that night,
Grieving, yet glad the soul took flight,
For they knew the Sanalite's fate,
To forever dwell among the cosmic great.

Oh, how the stars did shine so bright,
As the mourners left into the night,
And the spectral dogs barked farewell,
To the Sanalite who had sailed so well.

Go ahead! A long time ago I wrote that what would become salamoim were all opossum since they were based on palkyries and it was the only fanbase with a concrete design. Later I expanded it to include people with other animal ears like fox and tanuki to take into account the other fanbases. In hindsight it wasn’t the best idea to tie the people’s image so close to the palkyries since we get 18 girls now…
Anyway, since most of the fans are depicted as some kinda animals, I think it’s only fair that salamoim includes types other than opossum! You’re free to decide if they derive from the same archetype (big ears, grabby tail, semi-digitigrade) or they’re something else entirely!

Archive under /vt/ lore the Exhiled Sanallite.

It has been roughly a week since I started thatching. My hands have blisters from all the cutting and tying grass I've been doing. Because of this I have been told to rest on the seventh day. I rub ointment on my hands before applying linen bandages. Still I am thankful that I have landed in a place with some civilization.

It seems the locals here all comes from different corners of the world. There's a variety of people with animal traits that match a lot of pantheons. At the moment I am currently residing in a beach shack just above the sandy cliffs looking over the jagged pools underneath. My caretaker is a chumbud named Nana. She might look like a child. However chumbuds are small child-sized merfolk who are half shrimp. Nana manages the crab pots in the jagged tide pools. She's only twenty-two but she is a grandmother of fifteen. Right now Nana is living her retirement on the island away from Atlantis. Today Nana brings a cast iron cage holding what looks like a trio of snapping turtles.

"Looks like the rock turtles are eatin' the crab pots again." Nana says as she slams the cage by the firepit. "I say hell with it. Let's have turtle soup tonight." I stand up. "I'll start the fire." Nana waves her large pincer at me. "Nah-ah aaahhhh! You'll start a fire in your hands. Ointment is flammable." I rub the back of my head. "Ah, I forgot." Nana giggles then says, "You're such a helpful criminal. Now I'll start the fire if you can fill the Dutch oven." I fill the cast iron dutch oven with rain water collected in a ceramic tub. Nana has already begun butchering one of the turtles. "Someday you're going to make rock turtle soup so pay attention."

With grimmace I watch Nana prepare the turtles. The way she uses her hands and pincers to butcher is unworldly. Nana certainly can do damage with her pincers and claws alone. Once the turtles are in the pot I help clean up the viscera. "Well Grant, your hands are softer than you thought weren't they?" I can feel the burn of the blisters pulse and ache. "I'm not used to having such rough tools like stone and cast-iron wedges." Nana gives my hands a gentle rub. I whelp in pain. "You're going to need gloves. Even the grasscutters use linen gloves at least. It's not chitin like my hands."

I say "the tailor is still weaving them last I checked."

"Hmm. We should have a source of leather soon," says Nana. "If your going to mine you'll need leather gloves. The barn we're building should help with that."

Nana tends the food while I gather wood. I immediately spot a cargo ship off-shore. It has unfortunately sailed into the sea crags. The ship tries to navigate through but then it looks like it catches on something. Nana sighs. "I'll have to report this to the rescuers. I need you to keep an eye on dinner for me dear." Nana kisses my cheek. She then climbs down the side of the cliff until she hops in the water. I'm distracted by watching the ship nearly capsize that I amost forget to stir the pot before topping the lid with coals.

Nicely written, can really feel Grant's pained hands throughout. Makes sense that he'd have pretty unworked hands, what with being a spaceman.
