My guru once told me that I should stop viewing posers as those who refuse to learn and instead as those who have yet to be enlightened. When something that is unremarkable becomes insanely popular with a rabid fanbase for no reason that makes it a poser thing. For anime and the like it doesnt REALLY matter but for TTRPGs and still anime to a lesser extent it makes it significantly harder to find people to partake in the hobby with and that is the issue. "Monks" in a european fantasy setting with a d20 system being a poser thing is deep history of the hobby and I dont really want to go into it. let me use this as an opportunity to talk about my own interests instead of arguing, (I find it hard to talk about things I like and easy to throw one or two sentences of vitriol because I never thing people want to hear what I have to say)
When I tried to write "monks" for a TTRPG I went hard on the "Brother" title and made them frat bros x proper Gregorian crusader monks (kinda like space marines but not really as I had another proper space marine parody in there), That entire project was kinda a parody though and after I play around with that project a bit I cut out everything bar the non parody core and reworked it heavily removing classes altogether and now I have kinda abandoned it due to lack of motivation and lack of interest from others without the parody aspects (and as TTRPGs require more than 1 person to play you need interest from others to "do" anything) That kinda concept of a holy warrior who wears a tshirt, drinks in excess, and loves to party doesnt really exist outside of parody though so IDK what anime would best suit it. Maybe Bleach? no no no. GENDER SWAPPED SLIGHTLY AGED UP BLUDGEONING ANGEL DOKURO-CHAN.
The coolest monks in a book I have read were definitely the Monks in Tenra Bansho. Tenra Bansho is the JP take on a hyper JP TTRPG (made in response to BESM The US take on a hyper JP TTPRG), It's default setting is a weird hyper Buddhist biopunk version of the Edo era (and it's system is a really cool roll and sort d6 system with a leveling system inspired by Buddhist teachings). It's monks are punchy Buddhist monks (pic related) probably the most boring class in the book but still more interesting than anything in 5e. Fist of the North Star would probably be the closest anime for Tenra's monks but the flashback segments of SSSS.Dynazenon really reminded me of Tenra as a whole.

The battle of Gonzales being the birth of the iconic "Come and Take it" flag. The Mexican retribution that was Goliad and the Alamo, and finally the Texans revenge that was the battle of San Jacinto. That's awesome. I hope you included how during the battle of San Jacinto, the Mexicans were shouting "Me no Alamo! Me no Goliad" and the Texans refusing to give quarter. I just learned about that last year and thought it was so interesting. It really showed that our army wasn't really an army, instead just a large group of angry Texans. Oh, and also how they wouldn't even listen to their general, Sam Houston. Just a crazy story. Glad you told her about it.
