Does anyone have good book cover arts?
>>8055735Anymore Dune II art? That shit is gorgeous.
>>8056154I really like these baroque spaceship designs, i wish they were more common
>>8056232>really like these baroque spaceship designsThe Dune universe is rich with it because Herbert deliberately was trying to emphasize the decadence of where humanity ended up after tens of thousands of years. It was part of an effort to make the length of time and age of civilization weigh on the reader. Been a fun theme several authors have explored. Micheal Moorcock in the Elric and Champion Eternal stories did the same thing to indicate the age, the boredom, the ennui of just how old those universes were by the time we joined their stories.> tl;dr - yeah, I like it too
>>8055382>Denis Villeneuve tries his best to make you shit yourself
>>8055404That's when I stopped reading the books, the children fighting the weird laser tigers was the tipping point for me
>>8057886Tthe script for the Jodorowsky version of Dune is possibly the most moronic insanity I've ever encountered. It has almost nothing to do with book aside from some names.
>>8057924Can you explain the differences?
>>8057455It was zimmer's idea actually, and it fucking worked (metaphorically). I work in a theater and every time dune 2 starts up in one of the ATMOS rooms I sneak in to hear that opening line. so cool. although I think in the second movie the line is "control over spice, is control overall" or something like that.
>>8058001Well, I guess you can start with the beginning, in which a race of dog-headed aliens file into a futuristic cinema to watch a giant crucified Jesus. There's also the ending, in which Paul dies and every begins to chant "I am Paul" as the planet Arrakis itself begins to zoom through space like a giant spaceship. Also, Duke Leto doesn't have a penis and Paul was conceived miraculously.

Just finished the book moments ago. It was not worth my time, unfortunately. I'm happy for people who enjoyed it - I'm just not one of them.

>>8057924>>8058024THIS.Fucking signed.Jodorowsky's Dune is basically the equivalent of someone making a Harry Potter fan fiction, except that there's no such thing as magic, and Harry is a trans guitarist and singer who is trying to get a band together and become a rock star, Hermione is a strung out child prostitute being pimped out by her own drug addict parents, and then a fairy godmother of rock music appears and helps Harry and Hermione get together and become famous and maybe form a thruple with one of the members of One Direction, but then the fairy godmother turns out to be from an ancient race of aliens, who helped create life on earth.Except people were actually going to give that cocksucker, Jodorowsky, a chance to film HIS fan fiction, because they were snorting almost as many drugs as he was. Fuck that demented clown.
>>8059033i think its cool how they added in representations of the jewish rebellions and the crushing boot of roman decadence and domination, the scene where they both fight is the pan-ultimate cliché between empires and religion, faith and order, the legion vs the zealotsalso i like how feyd rautha's blade is in the shape of a gladius>TL;DR cool fight with obvious dick riding undertones
>>8060775Remember the part in the Lord of the Rings where the green and purple zebra men ascend Gloom Mountain to the Palace of the 30 Golden Penises in order to dip Frodo's severed hand in the sacred golden nectar? No? Well, Alejandro Jodorowsky probably does.

>>8055376>Uhh my lord, why are we doing this again? >Doing what? >Turning you into a sand worm... >Oh that. I need to follow the Golden Path. >The What? >A plot that has been ongoing for 10,000 years in which we are merely pawns>Oh. I don't get it. >I had to turn into a worm so I could become the most brutal dictator that has ever existed. One so evil that it will send ripples through the human genome, much like Butlerian Jihad. >Why would you do that? >So people stop believing in god... forever.
>>8057739You are fine with a drug that lets you calculate time thousands of years ahead, faster than light space travel, a jihad against conscious robots because they became far too powerful, and breeding programs by several organizations and families. But genetically modified tigers with little brain implants are too much?

>>8061553Mostly it was all of that together piling up and up and when I couldn't see the ground anymore I panickedThe first big warning sign was Duncan Idaho coming back following surprise techno necromancy giving him a philosopher mind because it'd be, and I believe I'm quoting, "funnee"It was kinda funnee, I enjoyed that character
>>8055378i like this one
>>8060262You're not going to be able to. Those came directly from the artist's portfolio.>>8060775Finally got around to watching the documentary and couldn't believe all the onions whimpering that has been done over it. The things he describes would have looked like absolute filth on a 1970's budget, and the man he choose to implement the visual effects would not have able to deliver at all, even by going off of what examples they use in the doc to showcase his "artistry." It would have been an thorough pillaging of the heart of the book and many times worse than Lynch's film.
>>8064392I think people that say Lynch's Dune is confusing or that "I can't tell that's going on" are just mentally retarded.
The older, original movie was soooo much better than this new one. Its shit, slow and boring. Like it was made by an art student and not someone who actually knows how to make movies
>>8065878The newer films are more tonally similar to the book. The Lynch film is an obvious hack job to anyone under the age of 35.
>>8066090I disagree. I like both '84 and '21-24, but one thing Lynch understands a lot better than Villenueve is how to characterize a location, especially Arrakis, and since the planet itself is such a focus of the story it goes a long way in reflecting the tone of the novel.Tonally, I'd say the new ones reflect the soap-opera-y quality of Dune, which is certainly has, but Lynch captures the human grittiness, mystery, and grandeur that makes the story a such a classic.
>>8066125Agree to disagree. The story in 84 feels incredibly rushed to me. There’s so much missing. So so much missing. 84 is missing so much grandeur(I think mainly due to the era in which it was made) and both are missing the ecological theme of the book. I’m also not a Lynch fan so grimy stylebgrates in me quite a bit. I felt a realness to the world, but not in the way he portrayed it in his film. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
>>8066090>The Lynch film is an obvious hack jobYou're aware that Frank Herbert spent a few hundred hours directly advising on the set? Lynch and Herbert collaborated to bring out what Herbert felt was the core of his vision.
>>8066660This is the last of the 2021 character posters.Anyway, '84 is the only movie version of Dune that will ever get a thumbs up from Herbert, and it did. I still don't understand why it gets so much shit, but whatever.
>>8057886Soooo glad this never got made. Jodorowsky was just going to make a trashy abomination, and the talent involved in its development went on to other, much better projects.
>>8068934>ywn be milked dry by this witch
>>8060775forgot the part where Jodorowsky got super-butthurt that Villeneuve was making Dune.Although, I will say, there is one fantastic thing that came out of Jodorowsky's Dune - namely the fact thet it connected Dan O'Bannon with H.R. Geiger, which, in turn, got Geiger's book into the hands of Ridley Scott, and that's how we got the iconic xenomorph. So, hooray?

>>8074031I am reading God Emperor right now and it alternates between annoying and boring. Everything Leto says or writes feels like a nauseating nothingburger in a bun of god-level narcissism.I just passed the middle of the book and it seems like the worst part from series so far (and I can't really say I'm a giant fan of previous ones).
