Been listening to this album for a couple days, trying to pick out some iconic tracks. Someone recommended the composer, I went to the 2017 remake instead of the original 16-bit or the orchestral arrangements.

playing Skyrim rn, I still believe that Skyrim has probably one of the best sound tracks of any piece of media out there. It sucks that Soule had to go ahead and ruin it for him and everyone else. We truly won't get this great of an OST again.

That's cool anon, even if I liked the glitch. What crf value are you using? I'm always using 0 for the best output, that's why you get a lower size after reencoding.

He scammed a bunch of people by "selling" an unreleased soundtrack that people bought and then proceeded to dip without releasing anything, effectively stealing the money. Bethesda pretty much said they don't want anything to do with him anymore.
>>
>>5531099
What release? the atmospheres tracks of Skyrim? If so he released the LPs recently. Fuck Bethesda anyway, he has the rights on his own music.

i could go on all night posting 16 bit tracks i love but i am far too lazy to download and convert everything.

https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-codecs.html
"CRF
Set the quality/size tradeoff for constant-quality (no bitrate target) and constrained-quality (with maximum bitrate target) modes. Valid range is 0 to 63, higher numbers indicating lower quality and smaller output size. Only used if set; by default only the bitrate target is used."

the below is what I've been using for a while now.
I take an image, usually .jpg, and convert my audio to .opus at a bitrate of 128 or higher if I can fit it.

ffmpeg -r 1 -loop 1 -i image.jpg -i audio.opus -map 0 -map 1:a -c:v libvpx-vp9 -crf 20 -g 3 -vframes 4 -c:a copy -y output.webm
doing it this way gives me a bit more manual control over image and audio track files sizes and bitrates

as a test for my own interest, I took a webm I previously made
file size: 5.82 MB (6,103,469 bytes)

remade it with the same audio and image image size was 52kb 600x600.jpg
but without any -crf setting
file size: 5.79 MB (6,073,905 bytes)

and then again with -crf 0
file size: 5.90 MB (6,190,547 bytes)

so a bit of a difference, but I cant really see the difference in image quality.
maybe it would be a bit more noticable at higher resolutions, but its a good way to squeeze some extra space to fit in 4chans 6m cap

I also tested remaking the glitched one with -crf 0 and it indeed was about ~2MB larger

wouldnt that have to do with your player?
does it show it after you play the track in you r player?
what player are you using?
I'm using mpc-hc and I never have thumbnails for any webms.
>>
>>5531845
Opus at 128k and over is overkill and not necessary, there is no need to go beyond 90k and generally a far lower bitrate can be done without noticing to fit here, that's how good opus is. The most important thing to scale on webm with the limitations is a constant quality, crf compress things in the container and it's visible for high resolution covers I generally post here, see it as a "lossless" profile if set to 0. If having a cover over 2048x2048, use -vf scale=2048:2048:-1, and playing with the btrate is -ab xxk. Just saying for the rookies out there. Good luck frens.
>>
>>5532067
>Opus at 128k and over is overkill and not necessary
I've herad that before too, looking at with spek you can see some of the highs get lost, but at this point its just my autism
if i want full quality I can get the actual music in flac or whatever, still I like to be around there if i can
thanks man
>>
>>5532079
Sure you'll see the difference in a spectrum analyzer, but let your ears be the final judge, you'll be surprised how opus manage very low bitrate for an instrumental track. Most people don't care what quality they're listening anyway, and share the lowest crap to fuck with our autismo. I've being that asshole years ago.

I figured out pretty early that 49 out of 50 people ain't gonna notice because they're listening on either earbuds, laptop/phone speaker(s), or bluetooth headphones that do lossy compression before radio transmission. Even 64kb mpeg layer III and people only noticed when I switched from stereo to mono for shits-n-giggles.d

I didn't know 4chan allowed webms with opus audio. Gotta try that now.
>>
>>5534248
I did the same song using `-b:a 64k` and `-b:a 128k` and I could tell the difference -- left/right separation wasn't as sharp in 64k and percussion was fuzzier (even though it's already dirty). Not worth keeping, but maybe worth posting to a mongolian basket-weaving forum.

nostalgia is one hell of a drug, gba's soundchip had nothing but flak because of how limited and shitty it sounded. the GBA ports of SNES games for example sounded so much goddamn worse than the originals that people straight up preferred to play the latter despite the former having extra content and bugfixes, it was that bad. that's why people made mods for emulators to fix it and make it sound less GBA-y.
>>
>>5535440
