Why did kpop evolve into being about all these silly dance moves, putting the music in the background?

I was hearing about how they control all aspects of an idols clothing/etc during performances and I wondered if they went so far as to control what they wore on their free time (wanting them to stay with particular clothing companies) or even if they mandate their grooming/what they shave.
