>>
>>5759578
No they're switches. Functionality identical to the wall switches you have at home but scaled up and conducts so much power, both voltage and amperage, that when you disconnect them they can arc across the air gap and create plasma that extends the length of the arc.

It's actually very simple why
Not only cutting the power would fuck up something somewhere else, not only the people having a short blackout but would also fuck the timing of many machines and of the distribution plant itself. Also that's just a distribution plant, the energy would still be coming, that would fuck up the lines if it has nowhere to go. They would need to call the energy production plant to tell them to stop generating power for that section so they could stop everything and that would really mess things up, from stopping whatever is producing the energy to restarting is
In short, it causes many problems and it takes more than a few minutes to set up just to cut the power and even more time to restart everything. And this is why the power is not cut, it costs too much and takes too much time

I have no idea, but ChatGPT says this.

The video likely depicts a controlled high-voltage switching operation on a power pylon, where mechanical components—probably part of a disconnector or switchgear—are raised intentionally to open or close the circuit. The upward movement creates a temporary gap between conductors, leading to visible electrical arcing as the high voltage ionizes the air. This process is unusual to see because it involves rare, controlled maintenance or testing procedures, often designed to reroute power or isolate sections of the grid. The arcing itself, though dramatic, is a byproduct of high-voltage operation and is typically managed with safety mechanisms to prevent equipment damage.

Maybe you could figure more out from that?
>>
>>5760367
that means nothing, why post it?

>>5760227
something went wrong on the grid so they tried to disable those towers specifically, but its so wrong that the video was the result
probably the voltage is too high and the air became a conductor

NSFW. It is very graphic, do not watch if you don't have the stomach for it.

You can hear him sizzle when he sits on the metal cover panel and the guy filming sounds like he's talking the piss out of him for is misadventure even though he's not speaking English.

>>
>>5762539

Typically those arcs are the result of very high humidity and very low wind.
>>
>>5760227
i'm guessing they connected some large test load, started the camera then toggled these to see what happened in an emergency or some shit
not sure why all the phases cut out at the same time at the end of the vid, only reasonable explanation i can pull out my ass is a high-speed switch offcamera - probably one flooded in oil instead of an airgapped one

This is not a protective panel. It is more than likely a large vacuum circuit breaker that they are racking back in by pushing the rear contacts of the breaker onto the stabs in the back of the cabinet. Generally for 4160v, 11kv, 34.5kv, etc. or higher.

You can see a similar breaker in this video being racked out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA6B_UHteUI

These are generally not designed to be closed in under load, and that is almost certainly what happened here. Also looks like their overcurrent protection is not configured for this scenario, or, non-existent based on how long the arc is sustained for.
