Most people who believe in flat earth, arrived at it in some sort of messed up state and it ended up being the thing that gives them stability.There's an essay's worth of analysis to write about this but I'll leave it at that.And as for the people who argue with them (the on who do it seriously, not just messing them on spearfishing forum) do it in a a bid to fight misinformation and science illiteracy. Probably warding people from getting into the flat earth cult more than actually getting people out of there.The thing is, flat earth is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to conspiracy theories. You need no knowledge of anything to get into it and practically everyone has to be in on it if it's true (meaning that of course literally every other conspiracy is also true).So if you're gullible enough to fall for flat earth, you'll fall for literally anything else.

If the assumption is that all the laws of physics and the history of the universe we are taught (in order to have the globe earth make sense) are fake, what grantees that the "real" laws of physics wouldn't allow for a naturalistic explanation for the flat earth and whatever the equivalent of the cosmos would be? That's just kicking the can down the road.The explanation that makes the most sense is the whole thing about there being other continents beyond the ice wall (possibly with other civilizations out there) that would solve all our problems, because there wouldn't be any more resource scarcity if we had access to those or whatever. I guess if you have an infantile view of how the world works that story does make sense.Gotta say, that would make for a great setting for a work of fiction though.
