Hi anons. I'm looking for anime that are visually impressive and not cheaply made. Aside from the "classics" I can't stand to watch stuff with low production value anymore, I tried to start the last season of Re:Zero yesterday but it was boring and ugly so I stopped.

What could you recommend? Yes, I've seen Frieren and Mushoku Tensei. Any genre is fine as long as it looks good but I'd like it to actually be a good anime as well. Pic related

Seen it, might rewatch it though, I remember it being nice.
At this point I honestly feel like not much quality anime is being made anymore and I should just cycle through the ~50 truly good shows that have been made over the decades
>>
Lain, Haibane Renmei, Paranoia Agent, Tatami Galaxy, The Tale of the Heike, Violet Evergarden. Some of those aren't visually stunning, but their story makes up for it.

That's the only one I haven't seen, thanks.

These are some the best ever made, you might appreciate them more if you familiarize yourself with the director's life works, the main key animators, the original manga source and filmmaking in general. There are documentaries about the directors and some good youtube videos about the making of most of these anime as well, and is especially interesting to learn about the media that influence them throughout their lives. https://www.youtube.com/@socksensei

Katsuhiro Otomo - Akira, Neo Tokyo, Memories
Hayao Miyazaki - Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke
Satoshi Kon - Millennium Actress, Perfect Blue, Paprika
Hideaki Anno - Neon Genesis Evangelion, The End of Evangelion, Rebuild of Evangelion
Yoshitoshi ABe - Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei, Texhnolyze
Makoto Shinkai - 5 Centimeters Per Second, Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days
Mamoru Oshii - Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, Angel's Egg

Those are the big classics I've mostly seen but thanks there's a couple in there I haven't yet checked out.

S1 was really good but I found S2 lacked the same sense of adventure. Srajo seems fun in the manga though.

Samurai X Ovas and Shigurui

Start reading manga, a lot of stuff is genuinely good with sharp art and dynamic panels, it just has a meh adaptation.

Hyouka has beautiful art and animation, I would say the best Kyoani has ever made, so very high production value. If you liked the art/animation in Sonny Boy, I think there's a high chance you'll like it.
It also has a lot of fun animation scenes as illustrations when the characters talk about hypothetical scenarios. The anime is really comfy, it's an adaptation of a (non-light) novel series.
