What's a good decent budget printer? I plan to use it mostly for printing out manga pages and pictures. I don't need any color, as long as the image quality is decent.

I plan to get pic related. Any recommendations are greatly welcome.

Brother usually has good b/w printers with minimal bullshit back in the day, not sure about now
>>
inkjet is a scam
get laser

Do not get Hewlett Packard branded printers as that company is hostile to people who use alternate sources of consumables. I am a former HP user. And if you sign up for HP's infinite ink service, one of the embedded conditions in the document you signed means you give up a lot of your consumer rights for the HP product. And there is no provision to restore those rights once you surrender them to HP.

What’s so special about Brother?

For a long time, that company made various laser printers that had plenty of 3rd party toner cartridge makers. The Brother company didn't try to make a proprietary system to prevent use of 3rd party toner. Furthermore, the company continued to make a low-cost basic laser printer and not just expensive feature-rich fancy ones. So there was a lot to like about the ethics of that manufacturer from way back then.

Companies can change. I don't know how they are now. I've always been inkjet because I need the specific high resolution ink photographs on occasion. If I need laser or even color laser prints, I can go to the public library and get a few free color prints there with my library card. Or buy multiple color laser prints for a tiny fee charged to token points that I can buy a bunch of with a debit card. The library really does not want to touch physical cash money whenever it can avoid it.

I don’t give a fuck about all that proprietary crap, I just want a printer that will print high quality papers which I will use to create books. From what you said the only benefit of Brother is being low price, if that’s the case then I guess I’d rather spend more on HP or Canon.

You want the best printer? Just buy the most expensive one available, why even ask us?

I’m not OP, I’m just passing by looking for a good printer, I ain’t poor.

Enjoy your b/w prints being rejected because you're out of yellow
>>

I had a printer that did that; friend told me they print almost invisible yellow dots so the FBI or whatever can trace papers, real Dale Gribble schizo bullshit.
Turns out it's true though...

Louis Rossmann re-validated that in his youtube video about how HP screws over customers by tricking them into giving up their rights. As it happened, cartridges that still had ink inside of them failed to work because HP simply declared those older carts invalid if you stop subscribing to HP ink replacment program. So the HP user needed to buy new retail store cartridges to basically start over. The older cartridges needed to be tossed.
