I'm going on a road trip and need some new music to try out.
I'm legit open to anything.
Stuff I've been listening to recently
>John Frusciante solo like Niandra LaDes and Curtains
>Nirvana (Bleach and Incesticide)
>The Who (Quadrophenia especially; classic rock as a genre in general like Zeppelin and Rush)
>REM's first few albums like Fables and Murmur
>2000s Weezer like Red Album
>any Bob Dylan album
>Jamie xx's In Waves
>Guided by Voices Propeller
>almost any country music but preferably older style stuff from the 70s and before like Hank Williams or John Prine; contemporary stuff like Tyler Childers, Willi Carlisle, and Zach Bryan as well
>Jack White's No Name
>mewithoutYou's Brother, Sister
Lot of indie/rock (I love XTC, Modest Mouse and Pavement also) with a touch of electronic. I like a lot of other stuff like Aphex Twin, Depeche Mode, Bjork's Homogenic among others but like I said I'm open to any genre.

Cat Empire - kinda spain/latin/idk inspired. Their stuff after "So many nights" is kinda meh but they had a few albums before so it's fine.
Anymore: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDgh69fT71Y
Hello: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk7N3dhzM1o
Wine song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=detOIeKuQwU
No sense (from an old single): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6aZ7blrc58

Maybe pinegrove. Nice band, not sure why "Everything so far" is their most popular album though, it's far worse than marigold and 11:11

you hit the nail on the head anon, I fucking love this. thank you

>>1496592
Heard of these guys before but only listened to Wine Song. I'll give them a try
>>

I've heard a few of their songs like Need 2 and Old Friends and they seem like something I'd like. Any particular album you'd rec?

old friends, Alaska, Neighbor, The alarmist. The Montclair live album is great too - Angelina and some other songs are better than the album versions

Geordie Greep some attention for his solo album right now - I like Walk up (especially 2nd half), Motorbike, and Blues. You've probably heard Black midi of which he was a member already, it sounds pretty similar.

Not a fan of the beach boys but this song is great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBAhT-_dLes

Heard about this album around the time it came out but never gave it a listen. Reminds me of The Wonder Years and The Story So Far so I'll probably like it. Appreciate the rec

>Nirvana (Bleach and Incesticide)
Both of these lean more on the alt metal side, but
Tad - Inhaler
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_b_Xi7uKUQ
Entombed - Same Difference
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suU51scFGMY

>classic rock as a genre in general
Deep Purple - Broken Barricades (criminally underrated actual classic rock)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqA_aAMZ_3I
The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Take It From The Man! (this album and the one below it just sound very strongly like classic rock)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rciuy10p0bo
Priestess - Hello Master
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAgECFjKTbo

>almost any country music but preferably older style stuff from the 70s
The Grateful Dead - Workingmans' Dead
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81r-SEJn6-g
Beck - Rowboat (the whole album is cool but this song is good enough that Johnny Cash covered it when Beck was still an indie literally who)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sBYeHxGTTQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDs73VyafI4

>Lot of indie/rock (I love XTC, Modest Mouse and Pavement also) with a touch of electronic
A few bonus singles, idk how much these would track for you based on this description but skip through them at least. Ordered from most rock to least rock

only deep purple I've heard is Machinehead and I liked it so I'll definitely give Barricades a listen
Already love Take It From the Man! and I've heard a few songs from that Priestess album but never listened to the whole thing
I have never for the life of me been able to get into the Dead but the Beck song was cool

Love the electronic stuff you rec'd, I'll look into those albums more. Any particular Butthole Surfers album you prefer? Heard Pepper a hundred times but their other stuff is a little harder to get into for me
Appreciate the recs

>only deep purple I've heard is Machinehead and I liked it
I fucked up, I actually meant Procol Harum. Similar sound but Procol Harum is proggier

>Any particular Butthole Surfers album you prefer?
Never heard a whole album, I've just been listening to Pepper a lot lately. Death Star Droid by Robot Koch is a super inventive and unique album, it has Hard To Find on it

Everything Everything - Get to Heaven
Steven Wilson - Hand. Cannot. Erase.
Devin Townsend - "Ocean Machine: Biomech" and "Terria"
The Gentle Storm - The Diary (Gentle Version)
The Dear Hunter - Rebirth in Reprise
And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead - "Source Tags and Codes" and "Madonna"
Marina and the Diamonds - The Family Jewels
The Music - Welcome to the North
Maximo Park - A Certain Trigger

those are the albums that I consider masterpieces from start to finish
