I own this old PS3 version of Minecraft that I got for free.
Is it the "oldschool"/nostalgia version that people on the internet like to talk about?

Old unmodded Minecraft was always an atrocious game with bare ass content only 11 year olds could enjoy. Just ignore what a bunch of retards on the Internet think.

No.
For good oldschool minecraft you should play Beta 1.7.3. You can play it from the normal launcher, you just have to go to settings and checkmark the box that says "show historical versions".

No, that’s a bedrock version, you want Java edition and before they fucked up the nether.

I remember the XBOX 360 version offered split screen game play with up to 4 players. I'm guessing since both versions came out around the same time it should support the same.
