Some years ago both fireden's /v/ section and the entirety of yuki.la got nuked. So if I go to one of the available archives like arch.b4k.co and find an old post with an image, but only the thumbnail is visible and the image itself leads to a 404, is there any way to recover it?I did some searching and found that some people seem to have archived some of yuki.la at least, which I remember as being the one site that seemed to archive most if not all images, but I don't know if any of those archives have the actual images or if they're just text, if they do have images I don't know how I'd search for them because they're huge. (but from the replies I've seen in the /t/ threads I found, they do seem to be text and only have the image hashes, which you can already get from the surviving archives in most cases)I'm looking for a specific picture I found on the /v/ archive, from 2019, but the full image isn't in any of the current archives and doesn't show up in any reverse search engines at all, so I imagine it must've been an original drawing. And this current case aside, this isn't the first time I've found a situation like this so it would really be useful to have a more comprehensive archive or a way to search for these sorts of images that might otherwise be lost for good.
Okay so I can show how you might be able to track down a file that's dead on an archive, took me a bit to find a good example to walk you through it.>example file that's 404'd on arch.b4k.cohttps://arch.b4k.co/v/thread/450412940/#450415528Click "View Same", it will search for that hash, but only on /v/.
Look at the URLhttps://arch.b4k.co/v/search/image/OayxCdPEh99mTPMPv-PVHA/Now change what board(s) it searches on; edit /v/ to /_/https://arch.b4k.co/_/search/image/OayxCdPEh99mTPMPv-PVHA/>only 1 resultNot surprising.
So let's try just another archive.Edit the URL again, changing arch.b4k.co tottps://desuarchive.org/_/search/image/OayxCdPEh99mTPMPv-PVHA/>No results foundThat's okay, we'll just try another archive.
Edit the URL again to search on 4plebs.https://archive.4plebs.org/_/search/image/OayxCdPEh99mTPMPv-PVHA/Hey look, another post with the same hash...
And just like that, we hop only a few times to manually find an image of a duck on another archive.Helpful link to find stuff on other archives:https://archive.4plebs.org/_/articles/credits/Keep in mind that archived.moe absolutely sucks, and the other two below it may also harass your devices with pop ups and malware.Searching on warosu is difficult because you can't search on all boards there, and the URLs become stupid long.
>>1506433>>1506434>>1506435>>1506436>>1506438I already knew about this method, but it relies entirely on the possibility of the image having been reposted on boards whose archives have more reliable file-keeping.I've already looked through every 4chan archive on that list (except some of warosu's boards, though the image in question wouldn't make sense on most them) and searched for the image's hash, filename, and dimensions as well in all the ones I could, on every archived board, but couldn't find any matches. I also tried to open the image on archived.moe, but I don't think they actually archive any files as it just points to the same link from arch.b4k.co.
>>1506439>image's hash, filename, and dimensions as wellOhh sorry, yeah you already know all the tricks I know.Hopefully my example will help somebody though. It it a really old image?
>>1506442Thanks anyway, I should've mentioned I used that method on the OP.And I don't know if 2019 counts as really old, it's this one: https://arch.b4k.co/v/thread/463543920/#463549665I have considered making this thread on /r/ instead, since the image is a bit lewd even if not really NSFW, but I figured it'd be more useful for future occurrences to ask for a method of finding 404'd images in general.
>b/v/k cant even track 2019 old filesPathetic, anime board would never
