Whats the best way to backup PS3 game save files? I'm trying to copy the game save files from one console to another.

I forgot to mention but the console I want to copy the game save files has a custom firmware installed. Not sure if this information is important.

I know how view files on the PS3 hard drive using filezilla.

You need to have custom firmware on both(i used evilnat 4.89 with multiman, webman mod should be fine), if you want to play online on the new console then make a profile with a psn account(don't use multiple profiles to simplify a later step).

dev_hdd0\home\<profile number>\savedata\BLES00932DEMONSS005
BLES00932DEMONSS005 is the single folder for Demon's Souls, there could be multiple of those for one game similar to picrel, get them all.
If you have multiple profiles, they have a simple ID naming system like 00000001 00000002 in the order they were made.

You can use filezilla to dump the folders from the old one to your PC and upload to the new one(same directory just might have a different profile number), or just use a FAT32 formatted flash drive and use Apollo Save tool(or multiman/webman's file explorer) to copy them. Afterwards use apollo to re-sign with the profile's ID(might be worded as de-encrypt/re-encrypt).
Some games you can just use the normal console's savefile manager to copy, but others specifically mark them as uncopiable so just do the above method to get them all, still need to be re-signed.

One last thing: after using one of those saves you have to overwrite it in-game(just play until an autosave finishes) and then restart the game, otherwise if you get a trophy in that session it will crash and delete every trophy for that game(i had an online profile and restored them from psn in my case). Such a crash can devour your save if an autosave was being written at that time, just a good habit to do it like this even if you have backups.
I haven't been banned.

Ok, thanks. I was trying to make sure I was copying the save files the correct way since I was planning to format the hard drive to install it on a new PS3.

My old PS3 is good as a paper weight since the graphics chip is dying. The PS3 only craps out when I run a game, so I'm still able to access the files on it.

You do know you can use any SSD into a ps3 which cuts load times significantly? I popped in a new unformatted 512gb one but it took several hours to format because the motherboard is old. Mine broke in the same way after a while, the load times were comparable to emulator on an nvme drive.
https://www.youtube.com/@ripfelix3020 this guy fixes them.

If I remeber correctly you can just use a usb stick

Yeah I'm currently using a 1tb ssd. It was what my original PS3 had installed. Are you saying that guy repairs PS3 with failing GPUs? I think I heard that my PS3 needs the graphics chip reballed. I looked up the process and it looks like some high risk repair for someone doing it for the first time. Also it requires special tools. I assume some service like that would cost as much as getting a new PS3.

Yeah I tried that but I ran into some issue with the save files not being able to be used by another user. I had to patch the save files using some hombrew app called Apollo.

I purchased a Japanese Final Fantasy PS3 slim and already notice that this console also needs new thermal paste. Its running loud on just the menu screen. Kinda annoying since I assumed buying a PS3 that was kept in better shape might require less maintenance. Not the case. I guess all PS3 need some sort of maintenance work to keep in decent working shape.
