I was a fifteen year old constantly going in and out of hospitals and crisis centers with a dependency on prescription Xanax at way too high a dose for me, but it’s all that kept me from losing it after a life of abuse. People talk about media where they felt “seen”, and that’s what it was for me. Guards!That said the first two books are exceptional in that they don't have much of a deeper meaning to them (or at least I didn't find it).Personally I was quite influenced by the Reaper Man but there are lots of people who say they felt the same about Small Gods.Other books that I always felt influenced me were 1984 and The Pattern on the Stone (dunno why exactly, maybe that just read it in the right time, but it kind of got me to "get" computers and influenced my future career)

You can't just throw a bunch of cool stuff on screen and let that carry you, you need to craft it in such a way to emphasize and maximize all the cool stuff that goes into it.
