Anyone know of any anime about someone losing everything and starting their life over, turning over a new leaf, or just turning their life around? (No Isekai, please. I'm not looking for a fantasy about suddenly having great circumstances handed to you. I'm more looking to watch someone face down their hardships/shortcomings.)

Through much patience, hard work, and some opportunity, my life is finally on an uptick. So, It'd kind of be like watching food shows while eating. I've recently worked my way out of a long rut in life, and I'd like to watch someone working to turn their life around.

To give you an idea of stuff I've seen that might fit into what I'm looking for:

- Clannad After Story
- A Silent Voice/The Shape of Voice
- Welcome to the NHK

Kaiji is about a man at the bottom clawing to turn his life around. It's fantastical in that it focuses on unorthodox illegal gambling, but Kaiji definitely has nothing handed to him. One of the middle arcs in particular meets your request to the T.

If this villain speech resonates with you, give it a chance. You should probably watch it anyways.

OP here,

I've already seen this, but spot on recommendation. Great fucking show.

Thank you for the recommendations. I have also seen these. Starting to wonder if I've already seen all of the stuff that fits my description. Lol

ReLIFE somewhat relates, leans more towards opportunity than merit though, if I remember correctly.
