Any US folkd here with international travel experience? Specifically US to Japan. I want to be able to use my phone while in JP, I'll be there for a little over a week. My current cell phone service provider only offers an international method that will basically cost me hundreds of dollars for the trip. A store rep recommended getting a sim card. Tonight I've been googling this, but I'm not certain I'm understanding it all.The first thing I've seen is "eSIM". My phone can use eSIM. SO I started searching and price checking, etc. However, are eSIMs for data only? I see many options like "15 days, 20Gb", "30 days, 50Gb", etc etc. The Gb is easy to understand - that'd be the total data I could use. But what about the 15 days? The MAIN thing I'm asking about is cell phone usage for calls and texts.>if I use an eSIM, can I make calls and send/receive tests/SMS?>if I can, does it use MY phone number and phone contacts and current text/sms message threads, or does it have its own eSIM-generated phone number?>if eSIMs do not allow phone calls/texts/sms, are there other options? Would it be better to get an actual SIM card? And if I do get a physical card, do THEY have data AND allow calls/texts/sms?>do you have any recommendations/advise/experiences on products/brands of eSIMs/SIM cards to buy? Please help, thanks!
