What are some fun games that I can run natively on linux on my old thinkpad?
The Marathon trilogy runs natively on Linux thanks to the open source Aleph One engine.Open Arena, it's a Quake 3 cloneSuper Tux and Super Tux Cart if you somehow haven't heard of these yet

Since current versions of DXVK require Vulkan 1.3, default builds of Proton won't support your GPU, but you may have some luck with Proton-Sarek, which is a custom build designed for older hardware. Use the Linux version of Steam and run those games with Proton instead.In any case, what distro are you running?
