What are some fun games that I can run natively on linux on my old thinkpad?
The Marathon trilogy runs natively on Linux thanks to the open source Aleph One engine.Open Arena, it's a Quake 3 cloneSuper Tux and Super Tux Cart if you somehow haven't heard of these yet
>>1510160Thank you so much, I would very much like to play Marathon. If anything else comes to mind, don't hesitate to post it in this thread.

>>1510200>Specs?Running the hwinfo --short gives me the following output.monitor: LG Display LCD Monitorgraphics card: Lenovo ThinkPad X240sound: Lenovo ThinkPad X240 Lenovo ThinkPad X240storage: Lenovo ThinkPad X240memory: Main Memory>Also, what genres are you looking for?I think I might lean mostly towards action games, RPGs and strategy.Ideally I want a game I can mark as completed afterwards on https://www.mobygames.com/>>1510213That looks really cool, thank you.
>>1510228>SpecsI'm surprised it wasn't more specific, but since you're using a Thinkpad X240, that means you have a low-voltage Haswell chip with Intel HD 4400 Graphics. Since current versions of DXVK require Vulkan 1.3, default builds of Proton won't support your GPU, but you may have some luck with Proton-Sarek, which is a custom build designed for older hardware. I know you asked about native games, but this might expand your options: https://github.com/pythonlover02/Proton-Sarek

>>1510229Proton confuses me a lot.If I want to run a game with proton I need to have steam open as well no? Isn't that going to take a hit to my performance. And why use proton then if I can just run it normally through wine?
https://linux-gaming.kwindu.eu/index.php?title=List_of_Source_PortsOp here, I happened to find this.
>>1510343Proton is a custom fork of Wine bundled with Steam, and yes, it is generally intended for running Steam games, which means having Steam open in the background while you play them.>Isn't that going to take a hit to my performance. Not unless you're using the Flatpak version of Steam.>And why use proton then if I can just run it normally through wine?If your (I assume non-Steam) games run fine in Wine, then there is no point in using Proton with them.If you're using Wine to run Steam to run Windows Steam games, don't. Use the Linux version of Steam and run those games with Proton instead. In any case, what distro are you running?
