For watching movies I use MPC-HC from https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc/

What's the best way of increasing audio when watching movies without distorting or changing it's character? I'm not super techy. I'm just using headphones and it's kinda quiet even at 100% volume. Tried searching for documentation but considering this is a (very good) fork of a now discontinued media player information on all the settings is few and far between. Just want it to be louder without spending hundreds of dollars on a dac amp to increase the loudness of my headphones if I can do it in the program. I know VLC has a slider where you can easily make it louder, something like that?

You may do what >>1522211 recommended. The MPC-HC also has its own normalization function to make the low volume sounds louder. Remember this means music is inaccurate because some notes and vocals are done deliberately at lower volumes, but now you are artificially trying to make all volumes equally loud.

MPC-HC ---> Options menu --> Audio Switcher --> Normalize / Regain Volume

VIdeo: Subwoofers in cars move a lot of air.
