Dexter Morgan is based on a real story of a CIA rogue agent. Public media will never tell you this, the real one lived in San Diego, and was working for the CIA in counter intelligence. He went crazy and started killing everyone including his sister who was a Lieutenant in the local police department.Everything you watched was a washed down version of this story. He was a local asset that went insane basically.

As in, he was compelled to kill as a kind of tick, and had all these other ticks and actions he'd have to do after the deed as part of his OCD. It looks like he lived in a subtropical climate near the modern time period, so maybe SE Asia. I kind of feel bad for him - he was pained by his acts. He is no longer alive, and I don't believe the deaths were ever attributed to him. Dang, his entire community lived in what we in the west would consider a form of poverty. Just goes to show how good we have it, and how tragedy affects us all.
