So it would depend on why they are calling for a specific type of wood. I recently needed some sprigs of yew and a local varietal worked fine instead of the specific one the rite called for.

Budget and time permitting, you can also order a lot of that shit overseas from Etsy if it's absolutely essential for you to have a branch from the cornish dingleberry tree or whatever, but that should be a last resort. Using local stuff whenever possible is best.
