Download the Tor browser (it's a fancy Firefox fork) then go to .onion websites. That's all there is to the "dark web" or the "deep web."

The ones that most directly connect to servers have the least volunteers, obviously, and the feds capitalize on it. The other layers where server owners can enjoy obfuscation and plausible deniability have plenty of privately controlled nodes, including the ones you directly connect to. The feds can figure out where the traffic is going significantly easier than they can figure out where it's coming from.

the dark web is a lot more boring than you think it is. avoiding illegal sites is very easy because it's actually really difficult to access anything by accident. in fact, it's actually really difficult to access anything at all because it doesn't have any kind of useful onion search engine or anything. in theory they exist but they're next to useless. you pretty much just have to find onion links from the clearweb and go from there. the hidden wiki is probably the most useful starting point. just download tor and find the onion link for the hidden wiki.
