Not just horror, but /X, paranormal, occult, UFO, etc...

>The Exorcist
>The 9th Gate
>As Above So Below
>The Wicker Man
>>
Actually an honest perspective on modern occult practice. Also dude is literally just Oshino Meme.
>>

Folk is great at this time of year. Here’s a shitload, some completely goofy, some kino:
The VVitch, The Ritual, Wakewood, Blood on Satan’s Claw, Midsommar, Witchfinder General, Kill List, Men, A Field in England, Sleepy Hollow, Quatermass (and other Nigel Kneale stuff), Psychomania, Pyewacket, The Hallow, Rawhead Rex

And if you fancy some fucking weird old British stuff that’s a bit dry but insanely creepy:
Pendas Fen, Robin Redbreast, Children of the Stones and The Owl Service

The original version of The Wicker Man and its unofficial sequel The Wicker Tree are also great entries in the folk horror genre. For non-English examples, Errementari and You Will Not Be Alone are also amazing.

most of genuine occult cinema has been lost to ages, but i guess that many of the movies today have taken a few pages out of their books and use the power to control people.

Nah, fuck that, I want to stick to the idea of occult movies.
>Night of the Demon
>The Void
>Lo
>Incantation
>Noroi

I'm tempted to write up a deep-dive into the occult themes of Night of the Demon, actually. Inspirations and where it veered off from actual contemporary and historical beliefs. Karswell in particular strikes me as a sort of blend of Gerald Gardner and Aleister Crowley.

Everyone on this board should watch this. I own the criterion blue ray and just rewatched it last week. Also, streaming is convenient but nothing beats watching a real hi def blue ray disc sometimes. I know they even have some kind of even higher resolution dvd now and there is a very noticeable difference as compared to streaming.

I watched the holy mountain, expecting to get something out of it. It was so bad and unpleasant to watch it's hard to understate. Pure hippie brainrot drivel. It's about as insightful or interesting as a 16 year old tripping on acid. "The planets are like.......archetypes bro........the gods are the planets dude.......jesus....was like........jesus dude.....alchemy is like.........inner..." Like reading a wikipedia page about gnosticism or hermeticism for the first time. It's like if I'm 14 and this is deep were a movie. And the director shamelessly uses endlessly gross imagery in some vain attempt to seem risque or some shit? To frame his critics as prudes? Unironically wall-e or toy story is more insightful or thought provoking than The Holy Mountain, a drug addled mess that at it's very core, is a fetish flick from a truly disturbed and afflicted mind. God bless all the fans of that film, you are lost souls.

This is similar to how I felt when I watched Evangelion for the first time. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it overall for the animation and the imagery. It's an okay story. But all of the symbolism is so unbelievably surface level. So many people talk about it like this deep masterpiece but it has so little to actually say at the end of the day.

It's occult ok fine but anyone with even a bit of knowledge knows that everything in it is gibberish.

Ok so they couldn't make an actual film of the real Abramelin ritual as that would just be doing the same kind of ritual dozens of times to control all the demons, angels and planetary spirits preceded by days of silent mediation and fasting, but having an element of wood? An element of steel? A circle around the whole house?

Maybe they were afraid to get too close but a more interesting film would have followed the ritual as described and maybe had it intersected with visions and dreams of overcoming demons.

Compare this to a real occult film like the original Wicker Man, that was written by a high level freemason (see attached) and contains lots of occult knowledge and hidden meaning. i.e. the confusion and mystery sgt howie is subjected too throughout his stay at the island. The scenes and songs presented to him serve a purpose; the alchemical processing of his soul for the ritual sacrifice (the masonic Killing of the King rite). They deliberately tempt him with the landlord's daughter, so that he would refuse of his own free will, but in doing so he makes himself a more worthy sacrifice. The false invesigation of the missing girl, the pagan rituals, the graveyard with the broken altar present a mockery of him and his beliefs. He was the "virgin, who was a fool, but came as a king"

Finished this recently as it was just released on paramount+
Not recommened. It is a prequel to Rosemary's Baby. It is competently done but you can't get away from the feeling that you know exactly what is going to happen, because you do. It also adds no new information about the cult of people that are doing the nefarious deeds, this is what people wanted to see the movie for.

Spoiler below

The whole movie plot is that she is groomed to have the devil's baby. This is the majority of the movie, and it doesn't do it better than the original. At the end she kills herself (which we already knew from Rosemary's Baby)

It's a movie with barely any suspence, save your time.

I just finished watching it.

Weird as fuck.

Funny at times.

But overall this is one of the most bullshit pretentious pseudophilosophical movies I have ever seen. Especially that dumb ending where they pull back the 4th wall revealing it was a movie all along.

The first Darren Aronofsky film, it's one of my faves, I would totally classify it under horror, that and requiem from a dream, the movie he directed after this
>>
not sure if it's been mentioned but this is one of the best body horror movies ever made, I would highly recommend if you wanna be freaked out and amused by Japanese weirdness.
