It's that time of year again. At least once a year I like to come to /x/ and share with you some spooky anime just to enhance the Halloween season. Feel free to discuss whatever and I hope you find some you're interested in checking out.
starting with a classic. Not all them are necessarily horror. Some may be psychological. Others may just be excessively gory, but all are /x/ related.
>>38981896genocybercyber city oedo 808psycho pass season 1ninja scrollblood- the last vampire (ova never seen the series)perfect bluewelcome to the nhkghost in the shelli know im forgetting a lot of hits
going in alphabetical order
>>38981915>blood- the last vampire (ova never seen the series)Blood+ I believe takes place in an alternate timeline and is quite good. Blood C is terrible though
>>38981928
>>38981938
Here's one that Tezuka worked on which always surprises me.
another classic
A decent horror one here
Got plenty of Go Nagai shit
This one is basically the anime version of The Terminator. Some incredible animation in it.
This one is one of my biggest recommendations. Rewatched it a couple days ago and it's still pretty damn good.
I think this one might a new one that I haven't shared in one of the previous years. It's hard to remember.
Another one of my biggest recommendations. Such a perfect little anime that tackles the old school monster movie formula and a great watch for the Halloween season. It's also very short with only a runtime of about 30 minutes I believe.
space vampires. Also much like the vast majority of these, avoid the dub (if they even have one). They are atrocious and only ruins the immersion unless you just really really like laughably bad performances.
This one is a crossover between two different franchises. Wouldn't recommend unless you're already familiar with them both.
bad anime but with some cool moments
This one was a big budget theatrical production which is strange considering how weird the story is. Not exactly the most traditional anime you would ever see get a theatrical release. I can only imagine what the people who went to the theater to watch it on a big screen must have thought of it. Interesting flick though and it looks great.
>>38981896
based on the classic fighting game franchise by Capcom
More Go Nagai
>>38981896some assembly required
This one I haven't shared before. A darker re-imagination of an older franchise which I will also share when the time comes.
even more Go Nagai. Despite this anime in particular being for kids (which is funny to think about in hindsight), It's extremely dark with pretty violent imagery you would never see in a western cartoon especially during the 1970's when this version came out.
couple more Devilman
This one is also created by Tezuka. Very ridiculous and only lasted like 8 episodes. The Van Helsing character tries to kill Dracula every episode but always ends up failing because he has a really bad case of hemorrhoids. Yes that is the reason. Good shit though.
Another new one I don't think I've shared before.
another classic and a true work of art for the time period. Keep in mind, shit like Scooby Doo was airing during the time something this dark was being released. Japs did not fuck around with their cartoons.
This is the original anime adaption of the Enma anime I posted earlier. A bit more lighthearted but still a fun watch and some nice visuals.
One thing I didn't know about this until pretty recently is that it's actually based on Marvel comics' Tomb of Dracula.
This ova was originally a hentai but was so well liked that they made a sequel without the porn. Someone described these as an anime version of Freddy Kreuger since it deals with going into people's dreams.
This starts off as a Scooby Doo haunted house flick and then straight up becomes a kaiju movie.
Just like the Dracula anime, this is based on the Marvel Comics version of the character. This one is a little bit better than the Dracula movie I think.
This one I don't believe is subtitled outside of maybe the first episode so if you track it down, keep that in mind. Also it's suppose to be for kids which is insane given the imagery.
another fun spooky classic. Fun fact is the voice of the main character is also the same chick who voices Goku in Dragon Ball. She's been acting since the days of the original Astro Boy and is still performing to this day.
This has one great episode and then becomes lazy and falls apart.
A fun fact about this is that the character is considered to be the world's first superhero by a number of people since he made his debut all the way back in 1930.
>>38982285whoops wrong image for that. This is the image I meant to post for that fun fact. Ghost Sweeper Mikami is also a ton of fun though. I believe her voice actor died very recently.
Didn't make this one nor am I really a Hellsing fan but maybe someone will appreciate it.
I'm about halfway done.
I really like this one
Another one I don't believe has subs.
This one looks good in HD.
another fun spooky one
pretty obscure one here which is saying a lot
>>38982385
I think this is the last one I have that does not have subs.. unless subs were made available recently
This one is literally just an anime version of Alien and John Carpenter's The Thing and it rules.
another decent one
Another crossover but this time between two Go Nagai franchises.. Also the second crossover I've posted that involved Devilman funny enough. It was a theatrical production.
This one is pretty well known nowadays for how dark and weird it is but at the time I made this, it was practically unknown. Still a interesting watch though.
anthology film
This is another one I don't believe I've shared before. Pretty decent and a great OP.
Based on the popular video game franchise by Koei Tecmo. Surprisingly high on the horror content.
spinoff of the Bubblegum Crisis franchise.
>>38982558
decent anime but it shines in the visuals. Obviously influenced by German expressionism.
another anthology
pretty good here and looks great in HD
yet another classic
Based on the Megami Tensei video game franchise
>>38982641
This is a fun weird one
This one is my biggest recommendation. A must watch for the Halloween season
Apologies for the quality. Pretty obscure short film trapped in shitty VHS quality.
another fun one
a classic
final image
No sure if anyone mentioned Acrobunch, Dorvack, or Gigantic Formula, but those are very /x/.
Something something Les Humanoides something something Metal Hurlant something Heavy Metal something Starlog Magazine something something Moebius revolutionized manganime industry something something Philip K. >>38982892they just look like typical mecha shit to me
boku no pico is pretty scary
They should reboot "tales from the crypt" in anime form.
>>38984290they already made it into a cartoon
>>38984290Watch Yami Shibai
Le Portrait de Petit Cossette is surely worth mentioning amongst spooky anime.Ghost Hound is also quite /x/, but if you were listing all anime with /x/ content you would be spending many days on itAlso Angel Cop
>>38981896i watched the 2 episodes of the spiral anime on HBO yesterday, its kinda meh. >people turn into monsters>tee hee hee thats like crazy or like something lmao XDimmersion broken.
>>38981896Love this thread every year I stole and edited some of these to VJ at a techno party and it was a success
