One of them cut me off on the highway once and when I honked it banished me to a hoary netherworld where I wandered, lost and alone, for untold centuries, trapped in the liminal space between what could have been and what never was, black stars dotting the bright infinity yawning out around me as I drove out of thought and time, through endless ruined cities and blighted lands unmarked by the sun’s cold rays, and when I finally got out I was more than 20m late for my dentist appointment and they had to reschedule me.

I have a friend who had to be admitted to a mental hospital because of one, it fucked him up bad. It’s been a while since I’ve spoken to him, but when I last visited him he was talking about all kinds of schizophrenic stuff, I thought he must have done a crazy drug like datura or something at first but doctors found nothing in his system and figured it was a damn monolith. He couldn’t look at anything resembling a square/rectangle. He couldn’t even go through doors without being sedated. The psychiatrists made his family pay to make a circular room for him, every other space he was in that was flat would make him spaz with anxiety, they only things that would keep him from completely losing it was climbing trees and looking at anything curved with no edges, spheres especially. He lives like a monkey now living in a sphere treehouse, but his family says he’s being shown pictures of sharper edges day by day and he’s showing gradual progress. I don’t know how y’all do it cuz I’m freaked out by those things, some people really are stronger than others.
