how do you find a good position to meditate if your spine is fucked?

do I have to get my posture correct to even start the true path to meditation? can I just meditate lying down and fall asleep all the time?

I don't believe in any path that depends on the body.
I don't believe in any form of meditation that says you have to sit a certain way.

I do a lot of my meditation on the ground. I hope your back heals. Work on healing it. I know you can do it.

I have a similar problem. Try a pillow or a chair if possible. I just do vajrasana. Spine issues or not, comfy or not, the posture will eventually hurt regardless. But once you get it down, it will be entirely painless, even lower than your baseline

thanks anon, I'm alright when I move or lie down, sitting is the problem.

tried both pillow and chair, I'm always feeling fucked up and off balance in some way or another, then the pains.

Have you tried going to a chiropractor? My lower back was fucked but now the pain is manageable.

If you can't sit in full lotus you're wasting your time and you're better off sticking to mundane life.

During meditation focus on healing the parts of your spine that are required to sit comfortably. Learn the properties of your chakras.

you can sit on a chair with knees bend in 90 degrees and hands lying on table or your thighs.

The Buddha himself had back pain in his old age and would occasionally lie down on his side to alleviate it, though it isn't clear that he used that posture for deep meditation. Either way, a certain position isn't essential. For basic meditation, a position that distracts by being too uncomfortable is at least as undesirable as a position that distracts by being a little too comfortable, so use whatever position finds the best balance.

interesting, thanks

meditating is about what you do with your mind not your body

the reason people sit cross legged is so they don't fall asleep lying down

yes

Meditation is only part of the spiritual journey. It also involves cultivation and full lotus is the best way to cultivate that I know of.

I move around constantly because of the pain, even while laying down, because it gives me a sense of control of the pain which subjectively lowers it, it technically replaces one set of pain with another which distracts my mind with the "new" (my mind likes this) pain so it's all less bad and that alternates what I communicate to other beings using my pain, and the different pain receptors and muscle tensing and relaxing as I both manage, and succumb to in minuscule ways the muscle tremors caused by my pain and poor motor control and programmed multitude of body languages and physical responses meant to guide ESP even with the surface of my skin all help me to assert dominance over those that would slow my aims, and I call that meditation as I mind-control them.

interesting, what you said resonated as true even if I never experienced it myself, will try it.

had undiagnosed scoliosis for most of my childhood which ended up with me requiring a couple surgeries. meditation has been really hard for me as well. lying on my back can me uncomfortable as well because of this. even when i have tried laying down, i end up falling asleep anytime i feel that i'm getting somewhere. if i were you, i'd just try meditating in whatever position is most comfortable for you. whatever allows you to focus without discomfort would be ideal.
i hope your back feels better, anon. spine issues are awful.

Dogmatic bullshit
>>

I feel like laying down is more than fine
I do it and prefer it as trying to maintain a straight sitting position does fuck with me as I'm trying not ot move either. Just as long as you don't accidentally fall asleep lol.
I'd say that it's impossible to meditate if you're experiencing discomfort, which will distract us,

how do you not fall asleep meditating and not break the flow of meditation?
