Is the internet dying?Anyone notice how major sites have seen a decrease in activity in the past few years? On 4chan, you can see a drop in overall post rates across major boards and it's very prominent on reddit also. Even on youtube, less new OC is being created and internet culture is moving slower. The only exception is X.com, due to liberalizing the rules, but even that may not last forever
facebook, tumblr, MAL forums are also complaining from what i've seen.

The internet, as we know it, yes. But why? While there is an uptick of bots / AI slop, the biggest cause of internet death is internet illiteracy. Late Gen Z and all of Gen A is tech, and more importantly, internet illiterate. They literally do not understand how to actually use computers, or the internet, beyond using apps.

>>39472671Agreed.
The internet just just not fun anymore. Back when it was the wild west you could issue death threats to people, say whatever you want, read about conspiracies you never heard of, all kinds of things. Now everything is so locked down, you're always worried about everything. Worried about getting banned, worried about getting doxxed, worried about getting arrested. Where's the fun in being on edge all the time? I like the net better when you could surf for child porn, threaten government officials, call blacks niggers, and hack sites without fear of anything. The net now is just another prison as bad as everyday life, and only getting worse.
DefinitelyThe internet was vibrant when it was populated by enthusiastic upper class nerds who were happy to share with you little hobbies they had in depth knowledge with and high quality thoughts Now the internet is flooded by sociopathic normies because of smartphones. Everything is just ego circle jerking. Who wants to stay in that
>>39470486Yeah, almost every youtuber I watch, even niche ones, have discords. Then there's Steam, group chats on other platforms... >>394774972 of 2.Basically, reddit decided to reduce the number of bots and this pretty much killed the app. There is no reason to go there anymore because niche stuff got better communities somewhere else without power-tripping mods and a voting system fucking users for different opinion posted somewhere else, meanwhile, people looking for the more mainstream stuff can just go to tiktok or youtube.

>>39477731There are other reasons too. Like the anons said above, discord with niche discussions is really big now and this fucked reddit. If you have some time, read the article bellow. On the flip side, when I become interested in a topic I can look up longform vids to listen to on the topic and not be sucked into the algorithms adjacent to that topic. It's a revolving door of attention. Something happens, some big thing comes out, everyone is obsessed with years, the thing gets boring eventually and dies, people find their own niche gradually as the thing dies until the next new thing pops up.What will be after reddit / youtube / ect? 4chan is mostly dying because of low-quality posts, but will it ever reach the point where it's worse than other social media? I think the imageboard is so simple and efficient it pretty much will never go away. Plebbit's format is so bad it could go away overnight if a viable replacement pops up and becomes the new thing. Same thing with youtube, without the popularity it would just be a slightly improved dailymotion. This isn't the internet dying, it's the trend of people moving to new trends, which has happened forever. People might even start moving towards a more "complex" and "difficult" form of entertainment, but that too will be a trend. The internet will never actually die because it's cheap with low barriers to entry and nobody's gonna pay thousands to do something else. Microwaves will still be around despite air fryers and ovens and frying pans cooking better in almost every way.

>>39475126The problem with official statistics is that they are produced by official people. If you can't trust the people, you can't trust their claims of how big the population is either. The same medical university that lied about the incidence rates in 2020 which led to the draconian lockdowns is responsible for the world population statistics.I don't think there ever were 7 billion people. It was recently suggested India made a slight miscalculation and accidentally only counted half their population. That'll be 3 billion hindus instead of 1,5 billion as previously claimed, then. The death rate is probably the same. They don't wanna stir a panic, especially since most people haven't processed their self-made dystopia yet, so why represent the death rate accurately when you can "accidentally" count half the rate.My reasoning for this is that the decay in forumposting isn't rapid, and it's not exclusive to forums.Post rates in youtube comments and twitter retweets and other socials are all declining slowly, at a steady though slightly oscillating pace.I can feel that if you were to draw a chart of the post rate and the death rate and overlay them, you'd find a very strong correlation with a fixed ratio between them.

It's an amalgamation of bots being pruned, the proclivity to lurk (which is why bot posting started), meme magic works, and its frightened powers that be. Sprinkly in the iPhone of 07 and now the user base has low barrier to entry to lurk, bc clearly 80%+ do not post. >>39483291I’ve used 4chan since 2009 and reddit since 2011 and have observed both out of sociological interest in the death of culture. Both hosted communities with extremist politics from the start. Both communities got markedly more mainstream across the 2010s. Both “deradicalized” somewhat in the mid-2010s due to political shifts; reddit increased community moderation as they commercialized for what was then the norm of market liberalism, while 4chan’s vacillating policies and in-fighting caused far-right communities to splinter and many went to other imageboards. So for a while, both places were actually not as overrun with neo-nazis as popular imagination now posits as an althistory. But over the last 5 or 6 years, while 4chan’s userbase has dropped precipitously, Reddit continued to grow, and most new growth in internet engagement is by young far-right fascists vocally recruiting and expanding. Reddit is absolutely filthy with nazis now. Some of the aging incels here who fancy themselves the cutting edge of racism and bigotry may be dismayed to hear it, but it’s true. On any given day, scroll through the comments on any thread that makes the front of /r/all from any community and you’ll see way more extreme racism, genocidal hatemongering, and explicit calls for neonazi fascist politics than you could find in a WEEK on any of our boards other than /tv/ or /pol/. Sorry if it hurts your feelings but it’s true, reddit has a million times as many outright nazis as here
>>39489450oh worth mentioning, reddit also has a worse bot problem (somehow) which favors the far right, and reddit began moderating extreme leftist communities MUCH more harshly than the right during the Biden years. Communist groups got literally 100% purged

Gets even weirder when you realize the MAL pic says 'Jan 6' so, assuming it was taken this year, that guy made 564062 posts in ~5 years—no wonder he thinks that forum is slow. I never used MAL that much and when I did I never went to the forums; I assume they don't have a lot of high standards or moderation if someone can rack up so many posts in that time frame. Hell, now that I think of it, I struggle to imagine someone here having some many posts in that same period of time.

The best they have is a decentrealizrd idea of social media as an income stream, which is awesome in principle, but terrible in practice because the avenus are controlled. It creates a scenario where their futures are either total compliance, or a complete rejection of everything. It'd be cool to actually analyze who went where on a particular site, but that's probably impossible. As for my experience with death the last few years, t's been older people dying from Covid or some other sickness and younger people committing suicide. I think the numbers, at least for suicide, are going up. But I don't think it's high enough to account for a mass die-off of Internet users.

imo, at least with 4chan, part of it is when the site swapped to catalogue instead of the page by page view. It wasn't immediate because most users would stick to what they knew, but years later even now I too only use catalogue. as a result you get a bunch of people who only reply to or see the OP, they never read or comment on the actual posts in the thread or the current discussion - making actual interactions and discussions lessen and everything becomes pointless

Power tripping mods have finally gotten the world they wanted. The big push for me to abandon all forums in 2012 was getting banned on the ultimate guitar forum for suggesting that people who have skill can make garbage gear sound good. He runs a substack. Go through the articles and you’ll get a good idea of his vibe: https://schwabstack.substack.com/archiveThe problem is that the Internet is being consolidated into a set of key websites by big companies/government. This streamlines internet to allow greater control of narratives. However, it also means there is more "movement" - common spaces like X/Twitter, Tik Tok, or youtube become crowded and people stop producing content because there are too many people "watching" them online.

I literally had an AI slop video about a cannibal girl that killed her family bring up both my first and last name. It was odd. Anyways, here is the relevant theory: Infernal Internet Theory is a theory proposing that the internet is populated and ran by demons and/or Satan and/or other evil entities.Evidence of this includes occult references in computing and the internet, like sigils, daemon/demons, and www, the symbol for Google Chrome, and even the word ‘internet’ equaling 666. The disturbing content that saturates the net would also be easily explained by this as well as users with Satanic usernames and pfps in areas one would not expect and not acting like an edgy teen or troll, such as pircrel found on a vid about mites. How many are online is unknown, at least to the general public. It could be only the big stars online, or maybe alot but no to an unbelievable degree, or it could be nearly all users you run across. If we take the “We are Legion'' quote as true, then it would mean the net is filled to the gills with them. Why is also unknown, again at least to the general public, but it could be assumed because they want to influence people on a mass scale, and no tool is better than the internet. It is also possible that they are here because they are needed to run the internet and computers in general, as maybe they are occult powered rather than more materialistic driven as it is told to users. Are demons online? If so, how many and why? Let me know your thoughts and opinions on Infernal Internet Theory(IIT).

>>39470549Between this site and Reddit, 4chan comes out on top as being reasonable and filled with intelligent conversations. Reddit is just a scary echo chamber of screams and howls. What used to be users are now bot-like hungry ghosts.

If you don't know that is where the major cyber operations of America is done. Yes reddit is dead because it's basically glowniggers replying to glowniggers. 4chan isn't immune from this either. Once we had an outage and a lot of the queries trying to figure out if the site was down was from Elgin AFB again lol.

>>39494635I've been browsing /v/ on and off since 2011 and also noticed that increase in up time lately. Besides what the other anon said about /v/'s "self-cannibalization" due to the spin-off boards, I also think that chinkmoot's—very poor—implementation of the new captcha and the removal of the IP count contributed to that. Now a lot of retards can easily get away with permanently bumping their threads like a pseudo-general. This practice was always there in slower boards, but given these recent changes now you can do it in places like /v/, too.
>>39536827wait you can self bump on /v/? can you? I didn't think you could even recently. could have sworn I tried bumping a thread the other day and it didn't work

Time is literally going faster, that's why the internet is so sparse now, there isn't enough time to create content for it.Time is literally faster than it used to be, people don't even age like they used to because of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J3SlZSLIZgTime moving faster, time shortening, was prophesied by Jesus as a sign of the end.Matthew 24:22“And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.”Matthew 24:21“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”

>>39511516I remember when the email leaks during the election the whole calling underage prostitutes "cheese pizza" became an integral part of the conspiracy, and nobody on 4chan even mentioned, ever, that that's what anons used to call it back in the /b/ days. And then there were other kinds of pizza and "hot dogs" and whatnot being used as code, too. As if someone had taken oldfag imageboard slang and tried to build lore around it (in a very normalfag way). It was bizarre. And again, nobody saw it as strange.I think the whole Trump phenomenon (on all sides) is surrounded with much more profound psyops than we think.
It's probably an age thing. All the sites you mentioned were big 10 years ago. A lot of the people who used them stopped frequenting them as much, and most new internet users are on tiktok, IG and whatever else is the new thing. I also disagree with reddit, I feel like it expanded horizontally. There are a lot of niche subreddits with a decent amount of users now. It used to be everyone on the same couple of big subreddits.
Take a look at the youngest around you and how they use the internet, and you'll understand. My younger cousin, a late millennial/early zoomer, and the epitome of normalfaggotry spends his free time either reading, or watching YouTube. TikTok when he needs to kill time. Instagram to show off to others. WhatsApp to talk to others. That's it.See, the thing is there is no longer such a thing as "the internet". It's just the normal communications infrastructure of the modern world.Personal websites and forums are a thing of the past. Being part of an online community outside of the mainstream is again becoming something outside the norm. And if we're not careful, we might see the day the internet is not something where anyone can publish content. It might become "read only" for those who are not "content providers". The internet so far has been a massive anomaly, and you will do well to remember all that you learned from it when it goes away. Because you were privileged among the slave class to have enjoyed it like this.
>>39470286>is the internet dying? It died a long time ago, before it became full of bots. The internet died the minute people stopped making real content and instead only focused on the dollar. The internet is just another money making machine, hence why everything has to be safe and sanitized, because god forbid a dirty word cost money in ad sales and product placement deals. Companies still use youtube to try and sell because the idea is that the content you enjoy and the person who is the face of that channel is the brand and is selling "authenticity" because you're familiar with them and "know" them in a quasi para social kind of way, but the truth is you don't actually know them. The internet can't experience infinite growth, nothing can, at some point you max out and can only hope to make a few more after you plateau at the highest height possible. People have lives to live, they can't and don't all want to just be glued to a screen 24 7. People have kids, friends to meet up with, jobs to take care of, things to do, or just don't need to be using the internet all day every day.
>>39544921>the internet is shitty because people don't use it enough and those who do use it don't use screens often enoughthat's certainly a take
>>39532892/x/ stopped trying to be creative after everyone called liminal spaces and backrooms zoomer trash
>>39545027That's what you got out of it? I meant that it is physically impossible to spend every second of your life on the internet and besides, people have things to do that keep them away from using the internet. The internet is dead and a former shell of itself because it is corporatized and sanitized now, it isn't real people having fun and posting real videos, but manicured and sanitized material meant to make money.

>>39545949One thing i fear is he'll take social security from the people who already have it or invested into it.Tons will die or become homeless, i doubt he'll replace it if he does remove it.One thing thats odd is trump isnt even in office yet. >>39473372>moderation is goodYou still haven't learned yet? Or are you just refusing to accept the truth? Moderation is what killed 4chan. Specifically allowing all mods to be fucking federal agents. The elephant in the room about 4chan is Moot fucking betrayed us all to the goddamn US government. >he was forced toDeath would have been preferable to selling his soul. He is and will always be the fool king of faggots forever. Every mod is a fucking cop. And this isnt just true of 4chan, but actually everywhere that has high moderation. Eventually, the hired mods who arent feds are fired or quit and all of them are replaced with US gov people.Moderation is cancer. It is better that we risk allowing gore and child murder to propagate instead of giving even 1 mod job to a fed, accidently or otherwise. If you disagree with this, you haven't been properly seeing reality for the last 10 or so years.
>>39537255This is the reason this place is dying. 4Chan became just another place for people to chase attention, dopamine, and validation. There's nothing really new here anymore.
I've noticed something about 4chan and other forums where true organic useful discussion doesn't occur even on those older forums, while on 4chan it flourished.I suspect the reason as to why is because back then both normies and autists hung out on the same places online.now that the normies have their internet (see intranet) they are filtered by these big platforms and basically never have to come across sites like this ever again short of pure chance.I would say this is a good thing overall.on older forums the occasional normie only stifled conversation.the bad news is that accessing mainstream internet will require more authentication over time which would make it harder to submit memetic viruses unless you had access to those platforms through ownership of them.but that plus the bot culling still doesn't explain the low engagement.
Facebook's going to use The Dead Internet theory as a business model>You will talk to the bots
>>39487992Theres exactly 0 chance this happened if you corrected some conservative on a libshit platform like reddit. You'd probably be telling the truth if they made you a mod on 6 subs at once though.
