Based thread. Love the thought that went into making the Shaddoll archetype. Obviously it's a simple portmanteau of shadow and doll, but the boss monsters are El Shaddoll--a corruption of 'El Shaddai' the hebrew name for 'God Almighty'

You bringing up Yugioh cards when I was browsing /x/ is paranormal.

I was just discussing the spiritual implications of certain themes and character arcs with my spirit buddies.

Here's a hint: The spirit world finds one of the arcs preferrable and one of the arcs a low-vibrational clusterfuck. And they're not what you think.

There seems to be a lot of similarity in the designs of the early cards to Crowley's Thoth tarot, and Crowley's writing that his tarot system stemmed back to ancient Egypt is in line with the original Yu-gi-oh story.
>>
>>39481986
Probably.
The TV show happily entertains the suggestion that the cards were originally designed as homes or traps for wild untempered energies.
It also shows how a righteous enough leader (Yami) can work with those energies to do right and help them clean themselves up, for example through the Dark Magician who becomes ever darker and transforms into the Magician of Black Chaos when the righting needs doing the most.
Most of the story revolves around Kaiba "wanting to be the sultan instead of the sultan", using his corporation and the card game to better understand the energies and ultimately acquire the services of the most powerful Gods trapped in the cards.

Weaponised Goetian demons.
The only reference the creator of the show didn't implenent was calling someone King Solomon.

What do spiritual entities think of the Yugioh card game?
Captcha; ATUY4
>>
>>39483591
It was a convenient vehicle for dark and malicious entities to find their way to children, who received instructions for invocation in the form of tag lines from the show:

"Heart of the cards!"
"I banish you to the shadow realm"

>Visas lore being laced in Vedic occultism
Most underrated lore series. Duel Terminal wears kabbalistic paint as a fashion but doesn't have nearly as much spiritual and occult theming baked into its essence as the Visas lore did.
>>
>>39483591
Some like it as a web of interactions, decisions, and expression of the players' sense of self both in deckbuilding and ingame decisions when navigating gamestates. Floodgates are near universally seen as really gay.

Thank you channelschizo! :)

Does the card game ever summon real entities? Did any events of spiritual importance happen with the franchise?
>>
You asked nicely so you get a proper response instead of a one-liner.
>>39484906
>Does the card game ever summon real entities?
Not in the sense you're thinking of. The process of design is too abstracted by all of the R&D process and many corporate hands and inputs in the design of the cards, archetypes, and so on at Konami to serve as an effective mechanism for divination or anything of the sort. There's certainly entities that favor certain cards, mechanics, or concepts more than others, but nothing solid enough to serve as a proper medium for them to express themselves through in the way you'd do normal divination. A proper magician could establish their own syntax to use overwriting the existing context of the cards for divining, but such a person could also achieve similar results with leaves or flashcards so it's not really anything special for yugioh.
>Did any events of spiritual importance happen with the franchise?
Several voiceactors in japan were lured into cults around the time they started working on 5Ds and it's probably because the IP makes the mind more open to unseen mysteries.
>>
>>39484988
Thanks for much for the detailed explanations channelfren!! :)

It's so interesting to see how the entities interact with the cards and how complex the spiritual implications of the cards are, from the corporate inputs to the card mechanics!

Well, he’s a straight. A straight isn’t a cheap win at all. People miss that a lot of the game is based off poker.

Surprised no one has mentioned that Kazuki Takahashi was eaten alive by sharks. He really did introduce children to some dark shit all around the world, and his demise seems like some kind of shadow game retribution.

Yes, his end was somewhat ironic. Let's remember that his manga is about people possessed by dark ancient evil spirits having fun in our world.

Lame thread. OP didn't explain how the cards are paranormal and everyone just posts photos of cards they think look cool or maybe paranormal. It's lame. How are the cards paranormal? This is just a card game with uses motives from occult sources like triangules and spells and all seeing eyes, they mix all up, create some sort of coherent game and people like it because it cool to play Yugioh. I have played it when I was a child and it's pretty cool. It's good fun, at least in my time it was good fun. There's nothing paranormal in it, maybe the symbols, but I feel like they are there because symbosl rule the world and everything must use a symbol. The christians have the cross, the jews the hexagram and so on. SO it has many different symbols, this doesn't make the thing paranormal. But I do feel like the power that be used the cartoon to promote witchcraft. Maybe that's where the paranormal stuff comes in. I do believe the power that be saw that Yugioh would be a good "vehicle" to spread some occult symbols like triangles and all seeing eyes and whatever. Kind of like DBZ get children used with the idea of aliens and outer space, you know? As a child I remember DBZ was the first thing where I saw the concept of aliens and outer space. Definitely not by coincidence. All by design.
