I don't think dreams have any deeper meaning than what you see when you blow your nose into a handkerchief and look at the snot afterwards. Most people don't do that. But some do it with growing enthusiasm and interpret the wildest speculations into their snot. Sure, every now and then you can deduce your health status from the snot or traces of a dirty environment you were in the day before. But there is no deeper meaning to it. In deep sleep, the brain simulates a state of consciousness with the dream phase so that it doesn't die. That is all. Yes, that's pretty clever and also wondrous, at least in terms of the workings and substance of reality. But any mystification of it always strikes me as interpreting snot in a handkerchief.
