There are lots of things to talk about and find balance on. There are plateaus of existence. Perhaps ant colonies look at cities and wonder if they are sentient too in their own way, completely missing the humans that live inside it.

Perhaps there was always a singular totality god and this is how he revealed his message. But even so. It came from paganism. God is not a ball of golden light. He made all of this. Even the romans thought worshipping the gods was superstitious, but you have to pay their rites and perform their sacrifices or you will suffer under them. The gods can be tied to the lifestyle of the land, or the metaphysics of a career, or biological/geological processes, or existential issues... humans are honestly just better at learning and understanding things broken down like this... they can all be children of one omnipotent god if you want, they're still in His domain

Most religions have a peasant version, and a clergy version, but they're often trying to say the same thing just in different ways of thinking.
