I'm saying this because from i know Japan never had a medieval church style hierarchy, so where do all these gnosis/anti-church themes come from? it's not like they're all Buddhist or Shinto themed.If you replace the church in these stories with the western power then it seems to make more sense. It's all about breaking free from the western demiurge, but you cant outright start critiquing western power in these stories so you use a old and defeated one that people in the west also dont like or trust anymore.
