I'm saying this because from i know Japan never had a medieval church style hierarchy, so where do all these gnosis/anti-church themes come from? it's not like they're all Buddhist or Shinto themed. If you replace the church in these stories with the western power then it seems to make more sense. It's all about breaking free from the western demiurge, but you cant outright start critiquing western power in these stories so you use a old and defeated one that people in the west also dont like or trust anymore. I say all this because if you know the history of occultism throughout the years, then you will know its usually used as a political weapon to attack certain power groups while remaining "occulted" so to speak. Now i know all this could just be western media influence being regurgitated by foreigners who put their own twist to it, but who knows.while remaining "occulted" so to speak.

>>39633068Gnostic themes make for the most entertaining stories. Simple as.
>>39633068if you consider the possibility that the historic japanese people had some type of inherent link to God it makes more sense. the world tree theory actually fits into this, if you conceptualize the people as "elves" with some type of unique link to God and apply the magic of the world tree theory then it would make sense why they are peddling the esoteric/occult nonsesne in the japanese media.on another note note, consider the heavy occult influence of the nazi regime. they had an SS unit dedicated to doing nothing but travelling the world and collecting unique religious and esoteric/occultic artifacts from numerous religions/beliefs. wouldn't it make more sense to employ the help of the "elves" that may have some sort of generational grudge against the same people the nazis were trying to exterminate?

Shin Megami Tensei is not intentionally gnostic, it's just the logical result of the "all myths are true" kind of setting it has which is incompatible with an omnipotent and omnibenevolent God.
