Why is it a common trope that cats can scare off negative entities? Why were they venerated by ancient cultures? Are they some kind of protector spirits? I always thought there was something about their attitude, like they know something humans don't, sometimes it seems like they know more about YOU than you know. I don't know if I really believe anything about the paranormal, but if there's any truth to the idea of souls, it really feels like their souls come from some "higher place." Sure they have stinky poops and freak out at stupid things and act like dumb animals, but there's a strange grace underlying it all. Do they just tap weirdly into our monkey brain empathy circuits and make us sense expressions that aren't there or something? There is really something off about them.

I can't speak on paranormal implications, but I think that cats naturally fit into a number of social attitudes that are ideal. They don't depend on others the way humans do, but they aren't wholly non-social like most other solitary predators are, so they end up with this sort of aloofness where don't typically seek emotional connections, but are extremely affectionate and kind if you can earn their trust and respect despite that. They act as a model for anyone who values independence but still cares for others.

Idk if cats ignore the veil, or are as creatures, naturally porus to the veil, but whatever it is, cats seem to be able to see and traverse the subtle barrier between the hard physical and the astral. This ability in an otherwise "unconscious" animal is a kind of outside context problem for malevolent entities and freaks them the fuck out.
I beleive this ability was conferred by Death itself, the Entity, as I beleive Death is a cat person.

Well they would then depict their pest control efficacy in the art that venerates them no? I don't see any rats getting killed in ancient art.
