If you look at their roster of guest teachers it's a who's who of the biggest names in psychedelia. Also on the list is B.F. Skinner the pioneer of operant conditioning. Apparently they even had a Soviet exchange program during the cold war. Current names associated with Esalen are Joe Rogan and artist Alex Grey though minor in nature. Though Esalen itself appears to be past it's heyday, it generally looks like the human potential movement and Silicon Valley Burning Man types are merging their fields toward a transhumanist agenda. There's some east coast places that are similar such as the Omega Institute in upstate NY and the Kripalu Center in MA though a of these paces catered to boomers and are less relevant today except for stuff like yoga workshops.
