What podcasts do you guys listen to, and recommend for the season? I really like "Astonishing legends" and "monsters among us"
As far as dedicated Halloween podcasts, "preserve Halloween" is ok, the host is a bit? boring I guess, but most episodes are on the shorter side so it doesn't over stay it's welcome.
Another pod I've heard is called "It's always Halloween" the good episodes are cozy af, but the host is a somewhat quirked up millenial feminist "witch type" so there's some coal mixed in there.

I listen to some of the old radio broadcasts they have on archive.org and Youtube. The OTRR stuff is pretty good. Also the stuff they have on archive.org is easily downloadable so you don't have to always stream it online.

AVGN is a huge halloween connaisseur and he puts a lot of effort into "Monster Madness" during october up to halloween. He seems to have been slacking these later years though (don't blame him). He used to have 1 episode every day. Also apparently does a whole prop in his garage for children who trick or treat every year

He also mentioned that he has a tradition where he watches disney's Sleepy Hollow every halloween to get into the mood
>>
>>41172805
He straight up cancelled Monster Madness for a few years, citing burnout. It has since returned in a limited capacity, no longer one review per day in October (which is understandable), and I've heard that a lot of the scripts are written by the Screenwave slobs now, which is sad. I still check out any new ones.
>>
>>41172969
He also touched on so many already, running out of stuff to cover
>>
>>
>>41172805
I really like that video! It's really fun watching that.
>>
>>41171963
For years I've wanted to make an internet radio station a bit like coast to coast. I have an unintelligible voice that would sound shit on radio though so I've never done it.
>>
>>41171963
Old Astonishing Legends is legendary. Some of their episodes should be books since they are so comprehensive, but they are stuck in the transient medium of early 2nd millenium computer files.
The /x/ podcast I listen to regularly throughout the year, and which I'll probably listen to for at least 5 or 10 more years or more is
>Mysterious Universe
even though the show is ending this year. I still have years worth of their paid-show back-catalogue to listen to. The great thing about MU is that their topics and shownotes nearly always lead to endless other rabbit holes, so they are the perfect place to dig into plenty of paranormal topics. I'm always reading some book they mentioned or covered. Just downloaded one about an Indian dude who went into the Himalayas, became a monk, got sick. In the middle of the night, a yeti busted into his cabin, shoved some kind of medicine in his mouth, and left. He was cured. Sri M.

>>41172551
Radio plays are actually pretty entertaining but are very niche; nobody talks about them only because they aren't hip and new and are pretty scattered haphazardly around the net. Lots of abridged books or stories, lots of unique shows, some precursors to series which became TV; see, Twilight Zone and soap operas. Plenty which never made the jump, too. But there is endless content in the old radio space for the podcast and audiobook crowd. Similarly, old lectures from folks like Terence McKenna, Alan Watts, etc. Even old comedian recordings. There is a massive wealth of media out there besides the cult of the new.
Anyway yeah there are plenty of radio renditions of Poe and Lovecraft stuff, and early scifi authors.

>>41173632
>C2C
Art Bell will be remembered for a long time to come. Coast to Coast AM is good any time of year. There are plenty of paranormal podcasts now, catering to a variety of preferences.
>>
>>41171963
I'm still looking for the perfect one. Otherworld is pretty good for people telling a weird experience they had.

I've tried monsters among us several times, but that guy constantly putting on that "low spooky" voice is so annoying. It's especially bad when he does ad reads. Way too breathy and punctual. I may have to try again though.

All of those "scary stories" podcasts are just lame reddit creepy pastas. And I can't do narrative podcasts either.

I think the answer might be in horror audiobooks. However you can access one (libby, spotify gives you 15 hours on premium), listen to some kind of anthology. Maybe one of those Ellen Datlow edited ones, best horror of the year.

Oh and I a few Halloween specific anthologies: October Dreams, Johnny Halloween by Norman Partridge (author of dark harvest), and Dead leaves by Kealan Patrick Burke. Haven't read any of those, but they're on my list for the year.
>>
>>41173376
Do we just post ai sloppa in these threads now?

>>41171963
I've never really been a fan of "horror podcasts", but I do occasionally listen to the odd true crime show or what have you. "Welcome to Nightvale" and all those modern attempts at radio drama stuff is by far the worst. The humor was always millenial/reddit shit and nothing interesting happens for long periods of time. They're like the horror/audio equivalent to something like "Homestuck" where the fans try really hard to convince you that it actually gets good once you've spent 15697 hours reading/listening to it. I don't have time to waste on something that gives me such second hand-embarrassment. It's just not to my taste. I listen to some Vincent Price and Christopher Lee recordings around this time of year.

What is the costume of the kid on the far right?
>>
>>41171262
there are pictures of me as a little kid on halloween holding one of those. I think we had the white ghost one too. I was born in 86, but still my childhood looked very 80s as everything I had and all the clothes I had were hand me downs. Something I remember from halloween that sticks out for some reason you never see anymore are orange pumpkin yard bags. home depot and lowes would sell paper and huge plastic bags for leaves and it would look like a big pumpkin, so it was like a very convenient way to get cheap yard decorations. you used to see those all over the place.

This is my first Halloween being away from my parent’s place. They used to go all out for Halloween. I’m not sure what I’m going to do to celebrate. I live in an apartment so there’s no handing out candy or decorating outside.
>>
>>41178174
I know that feel, bro. It's time to go on a bar crawl on Halloween weekend, get your ass to the local pumpkin patch, or both. Also you should still decorate your apartment because it's good for your soul even if nobody sees it. Find out if some of the local indie cinemas are doing classic horror film showings (they are). Chat up the chicks at these events, women love Halloween. You gotta change with the times but keep that spirit alive.
>>
>>41178202
That’s some solid advice. Thank you for that. I was thinking about stopping by a farmers market for some fall treats and then checking out some stores for Halloween decorations along with what you recommended.

Just go to a store and get some Halloween string lights and whatever catches your eye. Walmart used to sell some cheap stuff that were a dollar like little scarecrows and small, glittery pumpkins that look great near the string lights. Hobby Lobby had some nice stuff last time I was there. Get some spider web and a pack of spiders and put that somewhere. Get some ghosts to hang around and skeletons. Also, get a few fall decorations that can be left out when Halloween is over like leaf garland and non-jack-o-lantern pumpkins. It lessens the sting that the best holiday has gone by a little bit if you still have some decorations to keep up.
