Okay, what the hell is a Jhana?
>>
Why should anyone believe you of all people would give an accurate or truthful presentation of such a delicate concept when you’re too much of a narcissist to become a monk yourself?
Also why should we ask you, a self absorbed asshole for your opinion about anything at all?

It is a very strong form of meditation that leaves the mind calm and with a great awareness of the truth of things than the average person. It's another level of perspective
>>
directly describe the phenomenological experience of the jhanas, one through 4, or even just pick one but be detailed

Can you describe the proceedure?
I train in a lot of meditations, but I have no formal education in these old systems in this lifetime.

>>
>>41225227
okay I read what you said via google translate and it makes sense but I don't see why you're the purported pro, are you one of those asian people that thinks you can't share any 'deep secrets' because they don't have a teacher? why can't you share some crazy jhana experience, who cares?
>>
>>41225227
Aw shit nigga, I getchu.
That's quite like some practices from old PSIPOG.
>>
>>41225172

>>41225156
Can meditation truly be practiced by non-religious people? I have seen people say no, because our goals are worldly and we don't believe in the supernatural reasons to meditate. But I think values like inner peace, being a person who is better for others to live with, and mental cultivation are common and don't require any religion.
>>
>>41225288
okay, fair enough, it's not something you just 'do' on a whim yes it can be dangerous. but I still think it's better to have the knowledge of how to do it rather than not. Although I agree, and even coming from personal experience, one can go too far too fast thinking it's all fun and games and have to deal with way more than they expected.
That being said, medical texts describe diseases and cures and things like that, even if some idiot will go and contract it because they read it, better to have the info than not
Just a personal rant, thanks for sharing what you share all the same.
>>

Everyone can do meditation but only monks or anyone who focused on this purpose only can gain jhana or higher than that. It's like put a stone on the glass. Desired is not die but it was push down by mediation. It can growth again when you leave mediation
I can train you about jhana level 4 which seeing birth and deaths of all form and names. If you interesting
Reminder i don't think i archive even jhana level 1. But knowing these techniques help me alot in developing my mind
>>
>>41225297
Buddha warn his monks to not show all miracles power they have because it's not the way to end suffering and others sect can do the same . The power abilities to fly or warp or reading minds etc. these abilities are not unique of Buddhism.
Also i think Buddhism told these techniques directly unlike the West text. As i assumed before that all west religious is merely incomplete or some pieces from east religions only. Buddhism explained methods to gain all 16 jhana by details

Easy and safe way to meditation is to sit down close your eyes. Focus on your breathing. Let your mind stay with your body. Aware all senses. Don't resist your thinking. Just know that you are thinking. It's not yours. Here is another method that Buddha use. Is walking slowly. But your mind must aware every moment of it.
Aware that you are knowing seeing hearing etc. see your thinking but not become it.

To archive jhana you must do different methods as i said above.

Jhana are more dangerous. Hard . But gain more miracles power.
It's not only by Archives jhana 16 to enter nirvana. Vipassana mediation can enter nirvana too. And it's easier.

I think a fucked up spirit teached me to do this once after it was taking my spirit liver , well it more so did this in my mind by force and it teached me something by accident. but still cool , it lead me to at least put a very big risk in focusing on my mind better , whatever I had surely could be improved by searching more into what jhana is.

this goes into my actual question for OP.
what's your opinion on westerners , kind of getting or making , incomplete forms of medication or stuff similar to medication , just for an example , I just an hour ago tried to meditate on a very particular emotion, trying to make this emotion boiling hot in passion , so as to have a specific idea in very high temperature , because I need it to mix with something naturally cold , and it needs to be of neutral temperature. this is all just a complicated mental space to make something that gives better sleep and most importantly to have a calm head tomorrow , I would not say its particularly impressive , I am not trying to brag , but even if it does not do anything that big on my advantage , but that doesn't mean it could not fuck me up if I do it wrong later.
I am not entirely sure if first grade Jhana is something I have done in my life , but the fact that I can't tell if I have done this thousands of times or 0 times , is very concerning.
I don't particularly like touching shoulders with a lot of this more advanced eastern use of spirituality and specially not with stuff more directly linked to Buddhism or similar religions. mostly because their is a somewhat macabre but innocent way western or otherwise things can use to communicate with you , that I at least can intuitively read on , but eastern stuff isn't a mountain of corpses were their ghost of those said corpses tell me what not to do , its more professional and mature. sometimes it feels like I have the talent to make a train and to run it but I have no idea how to slow it down.
>>
>>41225709
oh cut the shit, everyone knows to 'focuson breathing'.
Specifically describe the meditative procedure for going from that shit to the shit we're actually on about here.
>>
>>41225735
>teached
The proper conjugation is "taught".
I'm not trying to give you a hard time, I'm trying to make the point that it's possible that you really don't understand western contemplative practices because you don't really understand how we think of verbs and acts and motions.
>>

And here I thought all mortal things were merely borrowed. It is for the body to want, and for all my desire to stay idle. My hypocrisy is very real, or perhaps irony would be the right word.

All things considered, how are you fairing?
>>
>>41225757
You are literally the last person in this entire galaxy I'd listen to about anythong like this.
Your childish perception is startlingly embarrassing.
Like damn nigga, have some shred of self-respect.
>>
>>41225735
all of this to say , one could call me the best example of a dumb hot headed westerner only good enough to know how to hurt himself and nothing more , to dumb headed to really improve fundamentals, hell to even know what is really a fundamental , as he seems something cool and follows it until he gets distracted by something else or horribly dies.

the closets thing that I have to a master* , told me some time ago that I really do just need to look into medication as a balancing part , but I think I ignored the main point of the advice by mixture of wierd principle and 21 century westerner pride.
she is to some degree extremely untrustwordy , I won't even tell you the context since its pretty bad , but I do still trust a lot of her sincere wisdom.

what would you do if a westerner went to the very same waters that you do , but not only do they not know how to swim , they might know how to unswim.

do I just kind of hope I can fix my problems of wisdom eventually and just carry on my weird situation , or is their something more reliable that I could try to manage my risk.

everything that I do and I have done , I think has an element of something before be calling me a dumbass and a fool , and while I understand why and its a fine call , I know better so I have to be stubborn and keep going , this repeats for most walks on life but a very puzzling exception is from the people who could achieve 4 stage Jhana , well achieved Buddhists but also people similar from them. , every time I try to simulate their criticism from my perspective , they seem to have some kind of point.

a point that I need to understand , or at least it feels it so.

but I don't have any idea what that point is , and I can't just give it all up , so I keep going with a big hole , a big vulnerability.

what is your opinion on this OP.

part as to why I want to ask OP for thier opinion desu.

its less than I understand it and more that I seem to have a six sense to not hurt myself during it.

its less that I am a super talented occultist that gets everything right and more that I can read the mountain of corpses to help me guide my way , to some degree I am also using my own corpses , because I am not really ok it has all been a long journey of time and intentional mutilation to achieve transformation , stubbornness and knowing how to use my weaknesses , I did use to speak way better , but I had to exacerbate a natural degradation for something that I needed which was useful.

it would be not be wrong to say , I saw a that my tongue had a limp in one place , and I used that place to break it whole , because I needed it at the moment , unfortunately it is what it is. was fun in the moment at least.

I should probably try to restore my language when I get the chance though, good use of spelling is very usefull and I might not get the time in the future otherwise , my adventures with normal occultism aren't bees and rainbows , but to some degree , despite not having many people to talk to , and maybe people to ask for help , I don't really feel alone and that makes me know I am safe to some extent.

but I don't really feel safe when talking about eastern stuff , but I know that if I trully fuck around and find out in this part , I might just get immediately get nocked down to never recover.

Buddhist stuff or just well made eastern stuff as a whole , doesn't really have the crutch that I used to keep myself warm and safe.
the kind of culture that is mainly a hinderance for normal people , basically a trap in western stuff ,for me a house

but I don't have this crutch for eastern stuff and as such it surely most be respected way more.
of course it most be respected way more.
that's why I wanted to ask OP for some guidance , I most of the time really can't talk to someone like him

OP is a Chinese nationalist and an unrepentant racist who uses Buddhism as a smokescreen for hating everything non-Asian, he attacks Christians for persecuting non-Christians but defends 969 for doing the exact same thing. He has a surface level understanding of Buddhism in general but because he's racist he automatically thinks he knows everything about it by virtue of being Asian and that westerners can't possibly know anything about it without being taught by a superior Asian like himself (while lecturing westerners on Christianity at the same time). He is the last person anyone should be treating as an authority on anything and should stop posting until he turns 18.

Also he's a furry and that's reason enough to ignore everything he says.

969 is only one example, a quick Google search tells us that there are many historical examples of Buddhist violence and oppression (usually whitewashed by Buddhists like you're doing now). OP answered wrong so here's the correct answer. Jhana is when your mind calms down enough to produce a physical sensation of the body calming in certain ways as well, with a pretty clear 'gear shift' between each jhana.

1st jhana is when your mind becomes non-scatterbrained enough for your attention to congeal onto the body, producing a pleasant energetic feeling.
2nd jhana is when that energy calms down, producing a more chill feeling.
3rd jhana is when the mind becomes content enough for that chill to become more diffuse, kinda like "couch-lock" to use stoner terminology.
4th jhana is when the mind is chill enough to stop clinging to positive as well as negative feeling. The body becomes flushed with sort of a cool sensation. You can chill far more than this, but this is the point where it feels sufficiently chill to stay there for a while.

just put the translation in you lazy faggot
>>
>>41234310
Also worth noting that although this is correct, jhana can sound different sometimes because it doesn't always happen at the same power level, kinda like a car crawling along in 1st gear vs flooring it in 1st gear. 1st jhana can range from having your body flushed with a pleasant sensation at the low end, to being absorbed into a brilliant light and having all perception of the outside world blasted away at the high end.

Take your murderer meme chud out from my Buddhism images it's disgusting

And no my answer already corrected
Jhana ( not jhan) can be archived by vipassana mediation. And it's strong form of meditation that focus on realising the truths of everything. And to gain 1st jhana you must start by focus on form and names. To divine both of them. And to do that you must training your mind about self awareness first. Senses of your body. And slowly start to divide form from forms . Name fom names.

Ok I read the translations and although I still think OP's definition of jhana is somewhat questionable or just too narrow, I am interested in the technique because I started doing kasina meditation recently using this orb (though usually different colors). Does this look like a good object of kasina meditation or would you recommend something else? How long do you have to do it to get the stronger effects? I've been doing 2 hours a day but am doing a week long retreat soon
>>

You should not train it by yourself without monks as your teacher because it's very dangerous. I suggest you train vipassana mediation to archive jhana. It's safe and easier. You willl understand everything clearly even you will not get much miracles power like kasina meditation.
If you ask me i don't think people in ancient era have orb like that. They use something very natural like fire or earth. Or Air.
Find a monk and ask him.
>>

My vipassana practice is advanced enough to create a persistent sense of liberation and restfulness all day and I and have enough experience with concentration to know when to back off and take it easy so not worried about safety. Got a headache with kasina the first try but solved it and haven't had an issue since. How would an air kasina work? Don't you need something visible to look at?
>>
>>41234573
I thought you were of Amaterasu?
Or so the shinto had suggested. Han huh?
Still I tire of dogma. I want original thoughts, and contentment... Despite what the Buddhist say. They are certainly the hipsters of spirituality, coming all this way and working so hard only to profess carelessness.

Lastly I had asked if time could be undone, not if it was endless. There are many types(categories) of endless.

When it comes to the subject of immutability, if you hold that there is no free will, that it is an illusion, so be it. But I would ask that you state it clearly.

for the reader, this is another one of those "dont be this guy" posts
for the writer, the baseline is stillness
for stillness to happen, mind and body need to be quiet
refining breath quiets the body and nerve potentials
from there it is the cultivation of awareness
awareness is paramount
from awareness springs forth the depths of stillness progressing to the spark of samahdi
only by properly conditioning oneself does this happen at all, much less many times, much less returning like absolute clockwork every day
>>
>>41227888
its pretty much this
enlightenment requires making samahdi manifest, and eventually to the point where it is constantly manifest
there are several paths to the top
the mind-only approach just requires superlative cultivation of awareness

>>41229649
the perception of time is personal to each observer
when samahdi is manifest, no progression of time is perceived
no matter how long, its like you're there for some moment of indeterminate length
>>
>>41234501
you should not be doing kasina unless you are following it up with stillness
and then shuigong rubbing the meridians on the head, eyes, face and such
>>
>>41227888
Orbanon here - it's pretty simple. You exercise your ability to perceive the impermanence, unsatisfactoriness, and non-self nature of all perceptions at the bare sensate level. Once you're good enough at that then probably during a meditation session, all sense perceptions will cease momentarily, and your entire experience along with them. It will seem instantaneous because there is nobody there to experience the gap. When you come back, a substantial portal of dukkha will not, ever. Your mind will be relatively unclenched and you can perceive non-self at will rather than requiring hacky vipassana techniques like Noting. That's stream entry. I can't explain much beyond that because that's as far as I've gotten.

>>41237772
Will look into rubbing meridians. I always try to end it at a still equanimous stage of meditation so all good there.
>>
>>41237888
zazen and shamatha are basically similar things
kasina is a concentration tech, it shouldnt be done by beginners, learn the foundational stuff first
jhana are meditative outcomes from proper practice
>>
>>41237888
I cant see how anyone meditates for anything resembling an extended period of time in that posture
part of the reason for full lotus is that it is highly stable
>>
>>41237983
yeah it kinda seemed like a position you could get up quickly from if need be
zen monks sit traditionally
if you want a real shortcut, just draw a warm bath and lay back in it so that the water is against the eardrums
learn to breathe completely silently
you cannot sniff the air, you must move the guts
transition in between inhale and exhale seamlessly with no interruptions
carry what you learn to seated meditation
if you can feel air then your olfactory nerve is wiggling and creating neurological potentials and contributing towards the noise level of your mind

How many people have ever walked on the moon? So everyone on Earth has no right to speak or talk about walking on the moon. according to your logic Humans have no right to talk about space travel because no one has actually gone there. Is that so?

Once again, the putrid stench of your ego continues with one more day of bad verbal karma.
That is your karma, not mine.

Anguli Mara is also a smart person. But he is also a thief. Devadatta was wise and attained the highest level of Dhamma. But ended up falling into Naraka.
