I just started skatingis there any advice anyone can give me?>inb4 practice makes perfect
you didn't need three fucking threads
>>215564Immediately start learning stationary 360 flips
wdym you just started skating? like you're leaning how to push or what? my advice is have fun and learn a lot of flat ground because you'll enjoy having absolutely shredded legs
how old are you ?If you're not a teenager, don't you think it's ridiculous to start skateboarding when you're old? not to be mean I want to start too
>>217663you only have one life, might as well try it. I started at 200 and granted I'm not that good now (can land basic flip trucks and shuv variations) it's still enjoyable and even therapeutic I would argue. Not to mention it's a good form of cardio. I know a guy who skates daily even in his 40s, it's really up to you how far you want to push yourself
>>217690*20
>>215564Learn how to stopUnderstand the difference between the front and back of the skateboardDon't push mongo
>>215564if you think its a little too early to try something then youre probably rightt. ankle made of aluminum plates
Learn how to fall is probably the most important thing
>>217663The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago and the second best time is today
I motivated myself at 35yo (1 year ago) to buy a new skateboard and train almost every sunny day, after quitting my job. It was the best thing to do, as said before the mental and physical improve is real, and in one year I can see the progress. A good thing if you live in a city is to try to break your shiness by skating in the same place as other skaters, they will hopefully talk to you and give you advice. Internet is fine too, to learn, but it will never be as efficicent that IRL advice, of experimented skaters.I started giving advices to begineer skaters after less that 6 months of training, still yesterday some girl talked to me and tried to go down stairs with my skateboard. Also : get some pads, even for street skating. It will improve your confidence, and you'll push the limits faster.
>>221557You must live somewhere nice I guess
Do a nollie heelflip while moving for starters
Why would you start with a nollie heelflip? you should lear reg foot position frits and how to push then learn the big 8 that includes the nolle heelflip but I completely dissagre
>>217663i don't think skating is any more immature than e.g. skiingmy town got a brand new skatepark that no one uses. i'm definitely going to spend my summer there.
>>225944the big 8 tricks are what exactly?
>>215564If you're over 20 y/o, or plan on doing any hill-bombing, lesson #1 should be learning how to bail safely at different speeds. You can save yourself a lot of dislocated fingers/elbows and "blast" injuries on knees and scalp if you happen to spill suddenly. Do some gay ass gymnastics at the park, over-the-shoulder rolls, knowing how and when to tuck your knees, and directing your energy along your abdomen instead of directly into the pavement.Trigger Time is irreplaceable. Wear shoes with soft, skinnier soles so you can really get that Alien Pussy feel for your board and it's relation to the ground. If you really wanna be gay, tie some 550 cord around your front truck and then full send it downhil. :3
>>215564The pockets behind the nose and tail are meant for steering and board control. You do not flick at that part.
>>217663 Thinking you're too old to start any hobby not inherently for small children is some serious NPC behavior. If you mean potentially getting hurt when you have a job to go to, just know your limits. Even just cruising around can be a relaxing way to get out and do something active. If you're just talking about it being embarrassing to learn and be bad at something as an adult because most people start as kids that's no way to live your life, man. I also promise you no one whose opinion matters gives a shit seeing an older person at the skate park that's clearly a beginner. Some people might give you shit if you wear a helmet, but they literally have brain damage so why would you listen to them?
>>221557>Also : get some pads, even for street skatingI'm too poor to think about pads and helmets
>>215564Skating is for fags
>>217690>you only have one life
>>217690>I know a guy who skates daily even in his 40s, it's really up to you how far you want to push yourselfWhen I was like 22 I retardedly complained to some old guy at the park about getting to old for this shit and he said word for word>"cunt I'm fucking 52 and in the best shape of my life shut the fuck up"
>>215564>Get comfortable pushing and rolling around>Tic tac>Manual>Ollie in the grass>Ollie in the street>Ollie in the street while moving>Shuv its>180s>Kickflip>Drown in pussyGood luck. The plateau is high but once you get basics the rest makes sense fast.
>>217663Hey retard, they invented trucks for old people, kids call it surfskating
>>215564Find the biggest hill you can and just roll down it.Also don't die.
before you try STANDING on a board you should just kick it around abit on flat ground. get it rolling, RUN and chase it down. next TIGHTEN THE TRUCKS TO YOUR WEIGHT.Now push the board, run to it and jump on.
>>217663>don't you think it's ridiculous to start skateboarding when you're old?NTA and I quickly gave up on skateboarding because I figured for a heavy guy like me (slightly below 200 lbs) the injury risk outweighs the benefits, but I'm in my 30s and at this point I've spent half my life learning to do stuff that others have told me I'm too old to start. The first one I encountered was>you can't learn a new language when you're this old, I know because I heard it on TV!Fuck those people. This Spring I bought some clubs and spent a few hours a week learning how to juggle them. Burned tens of thousands of calories in the process and made some new acquaintances in the local park. Meanwhile my colleagues who said they'd feel embarrassed to play with juggling props as an adult spent their spare time getting dumber and fatter while watching Netflix.
>>217663Like >>227806 said, it isn't less mature than skiing or snowboarding. It just got associated with kids and thugs so local police forces could crack down on where you can practice without taking rebuttals seriously.
>>235154Honestly I really don't understand how people can just give up on life and learning new shit or having fun just to sit down and rot away watching the latest Jew goyslop. Sometimes I feel like most people are just sleepwalking through life
>>215564Just give up because you'll give up one day anyway, save yourself some time.
>>215564Never give up because a life without challenges taken is a life not lived.
>>233057This is all good. Also, bend your knees. Anytime your technique is fucked, chances are you aren’t bending your knees enough.>>217663I have kids so that’s my excuse. I’m definitely self conscious hanging out at the skatepark around a bunch of kids though, so I built a mini ramp in my garage and do flat ground stuff in my driveway or at night in a church parking lot close to my house.>>221557Yeah this has been my experience as well. If you’re old, go to the skatepark early in the morning. That’s when all the olds hang out (by “all”, I mean max 2-3 other people so you basically get the park to yourself). You can meet some cool people that way and won’t get mistaken for a diddler.
>>233057I landed a kickflip before a backside 180
>>231260>>"cunt I'm fucking 52 and in the best shape of my life shut the fuck up"Kek. Based old Aussie.
>>217663It's alright if they look young and most zoomers perpetually look 14
