Why is airsoft """""""culture"""""" so bad online, while it is so harder to see it in actual person?
>>
>>215907
What do you mean by bad culture? Idk if it's any more toxic than other hobbies.
>>
>>215915
>every airsoft teching discourse having mostly redditors who never did any of it but will repeat what someone with lots of upvoots estabilished
>youtube and whole perception of the hobby is muddied up by ghilliefags that try to be second kickingmustang and call everyone and everything a cheater
I admit I overdramatized that question as a massive aspie I am, moreso should have asked if you guys see similar dispoportion between discourse online and how it looks like in practice.
>>
>>215916
ah that stuff. Yea i agree but i don't think it's exclusive to Airsoft, but yes people giving advice or just straight up parroting shit because someone popular told them what to think is annoying af. I generally just don't care about what people have to say until i know for a fact they own the shit they talk about. On the ghilliefags i think i can count on one hand the amount of times i've heard or talked about Airsoft youtubers lol. Generally don't see too many ghillies and if i do it's always the shitty aliexpress one or novritsch that also sucks. Ghillies in general i feel are kinda overrated. I use a viper hood and i feel like that's plenty to stay concealed. People in general have kinda t-rex vision so if you sit still most won't see you.
>>
>>215907
it's like any online vs irl discourse. It's harder to be a dick in person. Online you disassociate from people and treat them like adversaries
>>

You're wrong!

Decided to run my rookie zone kit last weekend. Situational awareness under this mask is hilariously bad, breathing on top of that also is a bitch. But was fun nonetheless.
>>215907
I think that is mainly limited to the US and UK. The airsoft community over here is very small, so if you are a retard word quickly spreads and everyone will know you for being a retard. This also translates to the online sphere, so people are barely able to hide behind pseudonyms and anonymity.

>eyepro
Had to swap out the gasmasks glass with polycarbonate, marshalls even testfired it to make sure it withstands 1,5j with the barrel pressed against it.
>fogging
It wasn't that hot so it was not as bad as one would expect. During sprints and heavy breathing it would fog when breathing out, the moment I breathed in it would clear up again.
>>
>>215970
cool
>>
>>215970
could you show how you replaced the lenses?
>>
>>215970
I thought about doing this with my PBF. We have a laser engraver at work so cutting the circles lenses out of some poly would be easy. Ended up selling the mask since nobody does theme games anymore.

I've also thought about taking an old Soviet filter, ripping all of the internals out and installing a fan instead to get some airflow into the mask to maybe keep it from fogging.
>>
Speaking of which, is the lack of themed/scenario-driven airsoft games limited to my area or has that been the way the whole of airsoft has trended? We used to have tons of cool games. Vietnam-themed games with half the guys doing their best impressions of Viet Cong, Cold War themed US/Nato vs. Warsaw Pact. Op. Irene had people playing as Somali civvies/militia. I remember hearing about cop/robber type games and post-apocalyptic themed stuff too, although I didn't get the chance to go to one.

Everything nowadays is just green vs tan. Sometimes they throw in 'Civil War 2.0' with no other context, sometimes they don't even bother to do that. And 'big' events are pretty hard to find, most of the fields are pay-to-play where half the people show up wearing paintball clothes. That's WAY less fun than 'Fortunate Sun' and coolie hats.
>>
>>215976
I just bought them from ebay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/272833416122?_skw=gp5+replacement+airsoft+glas) and followed that tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3eiCdOq8yk&
>>216002
Nothing like that really going on here, I personally just run my autistic loadouts during normal games, which usually puts me at quite a disadvantage against the average mutlicam running airsoft player.
>>
>>216002
For me it's the opposite. I used to just play casual games but now I do mainly historical stuff like WW2 and Vietnam games. One field I frequent has started doing Easter front, western front, Finnish winter war, Vietnam etc.
>>
>>216004
>against the average mutlicam running airsoft player.
why is multiscam so prevalent?
milsurp like m81, fleck, and even jigsaw depending on where you live can be had for next to nothing, with way better build quality than whatever chinkshit the average 0p3r8t0r runs
it cant just be muh tacicool and muh matching pouches right?
>>
>>216051
Multicam was used from 2004 until the late 2010s by the US military and a host of other countries (some of which still use it), as well as numerous imitations of it by even more countries - a large amount of known gear and tactical clothing manufacturers make stuff using it, a decent chunk of used gear and uniforms can be found in it, and it's an easy way to have something that at the very least conveys the simple aura of imitating a modern NATO combatant
It's not the most original, and it doesn't blend into *every* environment, but I get why it's a common sight among those wanting to make a generic soldier kit - even if I too wish people would pick something more interesting every now and then
>>
xps3/eotechs and T2 clones are too generic and gay.

>>
>>215907
Airsoft attracts major tryhards because of its military and competitive aspects, a few % of the entire playerbase are milsimfags and speedfags with 0 self awareness, and the result is drama and cringe. Also teenage boys.
>>
>>216604
how much of the airsoft community are cosplayers, tho? Airsoft is a fashion show after all
>>
>Broke down my rifle so it fit inside a briefcase
Virtually no difference between me and a real world assassin right now fr fr
>>
>>216669
I reckon most airsoft players are semi-cosplayers, they just don't realise it, nor would they admit to it.
>>
>>216493
>>216601
Most airsoft suppressors have screw-on ends. Sometimes they're filled with foam. If you want to throw a tracer in there, you'll need a way to align the inner pathways so it doesn't ricochet against any walls, as well as take up the slack so that the tracer unit stays put. Nothing tragically difficult other than having to take everything apart to access the controls. The main difficulty you'll have is how to engineer the tracer unit a clear opening out the front for the LED effects.

>>216669
>>216851
Airsoft is military cosplay. Otherwise, there no reason an airsoft gun needs to look like a real gun.
>>
>>216948
strange how no one makes cool replicas of famous Sci-fi guns like the Morita. And even if a sci-fi replica gets released it's low quality garbage and no one buys it
>>
>>216990
>Sci-fi guns
Not enough of a market I guess, only die hard fans would be interested, most airsofters want real looking guns and to play rambo, they don't want to know more or die for the emperor etc.
>>
>>217097
>normalfags ruining everything
>again
Every time. Every single fucking time some new hype beast SF AR15 gets announced and normalniggers onions out over le based SF rifle. And when some replica that has never been released in airsoft gets made no one talks about it. I hate normalfag consoomers so God damn much. Look at this shit. This is exciting to those subhumans
>>
>>217109
The current gun from the current movie/videogame/war is always going to be the biggest seller. I'd love a gbb Ruger P85, S&W 4506, etc. but companies won't make that kind of stuff a priority as their money makers are the latest gen of Glock, AR, etc., we just have to wait for the occasional bone to be thrown our way.
>>
>>217109
The airsoft industry, since its inception, has been all about replicating guns that're popular and recognizable - starting with movie guns, but nowadays whenever a military gets a new AR it's easier to replicate it than it is to, say, design a Mini-14 or Hi-Point from scratch and market it successfully
Sure, esoteric AR builds are designed for a niche, but given that TM-spec AR AEGs are pretty much the most common platform in airsoft those guns will also just be appealing by virtue of familiarity; doesn't help that the alternatives are often considerably more expensive for equivalent or worse performance while making use of unique external/internal parts, which is often a dealbreaker for the average consumer that just wants something that'll work decently well and can be worked on by most techs
All this to say: it's neither the industry's nor customer base's fault that popular things people recognize sell well and get large amounts of press, while obscure niche guns for obscure niche people naturally don't receive as much attention
It's gotten a lot better nowadays - more companies than ever seem interested in starting to reach out a little further and try something new, but it's always going to be an uphill battle to go from designing to selling platforms that by their very nature are only going to be purchased by a very specific subset of people (hell, a lot of the niche stuff that's been released in recent times is arguably coming out because of media suddenly bringing them to light - like the Raptor Grach and Kizuna PL-15 coming out after Tarkov's rise in popularity brought a lot of funky Russian guns to the community's attention)
TL;DR supply and demand drives the market, there's a lot of demand for guns people recognize so they get more attention and the industry provides it

At least the 3DP community exists to make more niche designs a reality, even if it comes with the limitations and up-front costs associated with such a thing - GBB Hi-Point when

>>217560
Hard to recommend something so unique for each person. Pants with built-in kneepads are great, but I, too, prefer external kneecaps because of how rough I am on my knees. Personally, I like the old school kneecaps from when I did lots of skating. They're cheap enough and I can wear them loose closer to my shins because I don't need the AT my knees.

>>217662
Quite neat painting, though the fact grip is mounted with zipties and blocks the charging handle tickles my autism. I'm thinking about painting my cyma's XM16E1, but I am still debating whether I should try making faux wood grain, some pseudo camo, or just painting furniture with OD or RG rattle can.
>>
>>217688
Yes I did block the charging handle. When I first got the gun I stayed very neat to keep it able to move, but I've chilled out since it really isn't functional to anything except changing the hop and I have that dialed in. FWIW, the grip is on a segment of rail that is held on with hose clamps that are covered in electrical tape. The zipties are only holding on the flashlight which was a last minute addition. The eventual dream is to find a surefire GripLight to replace both pieces.
If I had a CAR I'd paint the whole thing, but if you are hesitant, some self stick camo wrap gives you camo with easy ability to remove it with no residue
>>
>>217696
* my brain thought CAR but the comment stands for M16. You can also make a camo wrap with a length of 550 cord with various scraps of camo tied to it. Put a thick rubber band (Ranger band if you are feeling like doing it really tight) on the front and back of the barrel and then wrap the 550 around it. Another easy to remove or modify way to camo

KJW G17 or Hi-Capa (in essence, a double-stack 1911), while they're available with CO2 mags I'd recommend using gas magazines instead - they're based on two of the most common designs on the market (the Tokyo Marui G17 Gen3 and Hi-Capa), so mags are plentiful and there's plenty of aftermarket if you want to upgrade things (or you manage to run the thing hard enough to break something - my G17 hasn't had any issues in the years I've had it, though)
They do also make single-stack 1911 replicas, but in my opinion they aren't worth it since AFAIK unless you deliberately down-load the magazines, they require CO2 in order to have usable gas efficiency which will beat the hell out of the gun - their Hi-Capa (KP-05/KP-08 are the standard 5.1" models, KP-06 is the 6" Xcelerator model which uses a special lengthened slide and frame) and Glock (KP-17, or KP-13 for the "Glock lawyers said no" version sold by some retailers) are the safest bets
>>

mostly i'll just be shooting in my bedroom with a large blanket to absorb the shots. and even so most times i think i just want it to be displayed in my room near my computer.
>>
>>217790
counterargument: the KJW Co2 magged 1911's are way more fun and consistent, because of the recoil being way stronger.
>>
>>217842
>Co2
>consistent
pick one
>>
>>217855
>implying gas is consistent
what?
>>
>>217856
co2 is the fucking WORST for gbbs in general, also the consistency comes how well the nozzle seals against the mag router.
>>
>>217878
At room temperature:
CO2 - 800PSI
propane - 120PSI
This does mean it holds functioning pressure down to lower temperatures, but it also means it's beating the piss out of your gun, and not every gun sold with CO2 mags is actually redesigned to handle CO2 pressures long-term
Add on that CO2 is susceptible to far more rapid and severe cooldown with any significant amount of fire and it becomes obvious why your higher-pressure gas of choice for colder temps should be MAPP/propylene gas loaded into standard gas mags, not CO2 loaded into CO2-specific mags

It's not a reason for many people to play airsoft and go to milsim events in the first place desu. At the very least it's not 'muh real training with real soldiers' kind of bs and does some actual improvement.
>>
>>217966
from my understanding, the whole "you must do X ruck distance" is there to ensure players can actually handle the event (see MSW) and not fall out because they didnt train for it. i agree that people go to events for fun but its not fun for others when everyone has to slow down because of you or you get so exhausted within the first few hours that you leave

Fun is subjective. You can have a lot of fun playing with single shot shotguns for $20-40 though being quite outclassed, or pay $100-150 for cheapest gameable AEG's. Probably $200 is a starting point for getting everything you'll need. $300 is much more comfortable than that, though.

But fake worn is gay as hell. Not only are you LARPing as a soldier, but now you're also LARPing as someone who's active and not a couch potato.

Nah, fake wear is fine with the right loadout. Try doing a Somali pirate or Mad Max type loadout with a brand new rifle, doesn't work at all.

I don't think the full line up has launched but Red Wolf has this one in stock. Supposed to be full steel other than the outer barrel (aluminum for weight), also features an ETU, 13:1 gears, QSC and strong motor. Pretty nice.

Milsim is dying out. A lot of fields nowadays have half the players running around in basketball shorts and sneakers. I blame the shift of popular video games from having serious military themes to being zany cartoon fortnite characters. So go wild, nobody cares anymore.

a while ago i got me a cyma svu, its a piece of work with the 4 gear box with the high gear ratio and absolutely no space to upgrade or tinker around especially with the proprietary bullshit
brought it to a guy who does this for a living to shorten the inner so i can remove the original suppressor and slap on a tracer unit, besides that he opened it up to lube it and whatever
fucker was suffering with the reassembly so its visibly fucked up on multiple areas including one of the battery cables being chipped, which i had to fix with some heat shrink, and had to maneuver it around so i could fit the battery again and actually connect it too
thing is, he fucked up something good because now the full auto is not working, he was babling on about a switch that maybe overturned but didn't help me at all, now tho i checked the gun again because i had a feeling i have to charge it, its been collecting dust for a while, and now the full auto worked for a hot minute, after which the battery died
removed and charged it for about half an hour, put it back on and now the full auto mode is dead again
what did this retard fuck up, how, and can i fix it by just disassembling and putting something back to its place? its a modernized version of the svu with rails and such, and apparently cyma has no insttructions for it, only for the older dragunov style one
>>

Hello I'm a retard and trying to get into playing airsoft. Does anyone know if US stores like Evike still ship to NY state? Amazon cock blocked me when I was trying to compare prices. I don't live in the city, where I think this stuff is specifically illegal, but often retailers get cold feet when NYC does something retarded and they adopt a blanket ban.
>>
>>218876
not really a fan of having a tube connected to the gun, but it would also be a bit pricey, would rather just fix the auto for the moment, im not taking it out enough to warrant a conversion
>>
>>218864
So safe and semi both work correctly? When you put in on full, can you hear the gearbox trying to turn over or is it completely silent?

If it's the former, I would start by getting a whole different battery that is 100% known to be fully charged and working correctly and try it again. Electrical issues can sometimes render the battery FUBAR. If you had a short, it may be toast. It may have just enough juice to cycle semi a couple shots but not full auto.

eBay item number:266353586643
claims to fit 14-18mm barrel which should fit an AK
I made a flashlight rail for mine out of a scope base so it attaches to the side rail. Aluminum bar bolted to it that comes up the side several inches so I can activate the light with my thumb.
>>
>>218902
the solution they have is pretty retarded, the traditional ak handle to switch safe/semi/auto is actually semi/semi/auto, and theres a safety at the trigger
safe blocks the trigger completely, can't fuck up much there, all 3 states on the handle is safe
the battery should be fine, when im saying its struggling to do auto, i mean it just fires as regular semi, like its turned semi, and not like theres not enough juice, i played like this anyway and it did well for a 2 hour session, at home fucked around with it some more and it was still going strong
>>
>>218988
I tried a chinesium mount like that already. I want to mount the flashlight to the side but I couldn't because the gas tube got in the way of the mount's "wings".

Just bought a boneyarded rental Lancer AR for $20. Plugged a battery in and it seems to work. The plastic air nozzle is cracked and I can replace that with a metal one for $10. Otherwise it's just dirty and the o-rings are blown out. I think I actually did ok?

With AKs, sometimes you'll have a wire or something inhibiting the movement of one the selector gears, usually on the back left. That could cause it not to go 'quite' all the way down, or in your case not be able to reach full-auto.

I would just take the GB out of the receiver and give it a look. It may work fine outside the receiver, and just need more careful reassembly. Wouldn't think that you'd need to open the GB. The only thing that seems like a pain is the trigger being in front of the GB. Hopefully the wiring is long enough to pull it out without disassembling anything further.

if you are getting into airsofting i do have some advice. Go for a M4 or AK platform. simply put though some guns are cool and fun to use. what you should really be mindful of are the wide arange of companies that offer parts and gear that fit around these 2 models of airsoft guns.
I been thinking about getting a MP5 recently. but I already have a M4 platform.

My local airsoft group has become that was full of Gen X and millenials has completely changed. the boomers have turned 40 and 50 and just want to sit in the background and let millennials and zoomers play the sport. the problem with this is that the organizers that are "too old" to go play now just insist that their indoor facility is best. where its literal fortnite zoomers running around dual wielding pistols. the sport has changed so much and the people that use to run a good show are just too old. I dont think they are too old, but thats what the ground they now stand on.
what a pathetic ground that is.

Nah, I ate the bat soup and got this. Not best looking balaclava, but it's best mouth protection i've had so far; it doesn't make breathing harder unlike most stuff i've had (rubber insert masks, balaclavas with metal mesh tucked in) and it also doesn't get in the way of aiming like full mesh masks, or paintball masks.

Unfortunately your best bet is biting the bullet, and using facebook. Sometime there are regional discord communities, but they usually advertise on facebook anyway, and some of them shut down when they banned trading tactical gear and airsoft replicas.

There were reports from ~2017 - pandemic of really ham-fisted glownigger infiltration attempts of random reenactment groups. Obviously, they tended to target the WW2 German groups, but I heard some milsim groups were caught up in it as """potential militias""". It really ramped up around the boogagloo scare (2020-21) when some of those groups had to keep "we disavow and condemn ______" letters on file in case their more /pol/itically motivated members attended a protest in full kit + patches. A few have actually had to use them.
