There's like 10 sumo generals on /xs/. It's not necessary
>>
>>243920
Hakuoho needs arm replacement surgery. No amount of work on his arms will change the fact that his fat arm shape and lack of reach kill him. Many matches I see him lose involve him trying to grab the belt and being unable to because he has T-Rex arms.
Probably shouldn't have been a belt wrestler while having 4 inch arms.

Also Hakuoho literally did do surgery and tumble down the banzuke after multiple tournaments missed

After rewatching the playoff bout for like the dozenth time I noticed something that I haven't seen anyone else point out yet.
It was Kakuryu who called the mono-ii. It was a clear victory for Onosato and the mono-ii was some unexpected extra drama after the bout, seemed to add to the suspense a little, but now realizing that it was Kakuryu calling for it unnecessarily in support of his racial brethren, it seems a kinda filthy

Their behavior is justified/rationalized the same way as any other similar organization, the go into a meeting and everyone spouts out the latest professional sounding industry buzzwords, jargon and catchphrases until a decision is reached. They recently made a bunch of short length clip shows out of old Dosukoi episodes which doubtlessly are intended to appeal to the TikTok/YoutubeShorts crowd.

If you want to be a real sumo fan you should start following the lower division championships, theres a new guy down there who just started off like Dan, winning the the two J divisions consecutively at the start of his career. 190cm too. Kaki could be at the start of making a rush to the top. Don't be a silly casual and get surprised by guys like that.
>>
>>244049
How was this even possible?
>>
>>244182
>Its gonna be a major embarrassment for Terunofuji if the only top tier talents his stable can produce are all Hakuho recruits like Hakuoho & Kusano
Hakuoho has competed with Isegahama longer than he's been with Miyagino. Pretty much all of Kusano's basho were under Isegahama as well. One could make the argument that they're more of an Isegahama product at this point.

In the clown era it does. And the clown era has not yet ended, though its end is indeed approaching.

>>244327
Hardly surprising. They really have no clue how to manage sumo for the international crowd. All he infrastructure is already up, they could be streaming and charging 10$ per basho with near zero invesment.
>>
Shodai fans on Xitter are gloating massively over having beaten Dan. Its almost as if they're treating a victory over Dan as an accomplishment as important as a kinboshi. I guess everyone is starting to recognize the importance of Dan, even Shodai fans.

Of the 7 lower rankers in Ajigawa, 6 made MK. There was a 4-3 in jonidan.
This result calls into question the narrative that Aminishiki's epic coaching is somehow a contributing factor in Dan's success because coach Aminishiki certainly isn't working magic with the rest of his disciples
>>
>>244466
3 of his lads went 7-0 like 3 times in a row each until they stalled in makushitter hell
>>
>>244466
Most oyakata fucking suck at training up their dudes. Just look at the mighty Nishonoseki; without Onosato his list of sekitori would consist of the faltering Shirokuma. The JSA chairman is only just getting his single sekitori back next basho in Kitanowaka.

Being a top tier oyakata isn't about training your dudes, it's about recruiting the best dudes. You can't train someone to have physique like Onosato, or a fighting IQ and drive like Hoshoryu. Hakuho first met Ochiai when he was 11.
>>
>>244466
We should try teaching Shishi how to uchimuso just to be sure
>>
>>244492
Also luckshitting. Hakuho was a 60kg lanklet that Miyagino (a perma Juryo shitter) took on because he pitied him. With the current recruiting rules, nobody would have acceptrd Hakuho
>>
>>244466
Ajigawa has only been open for 3 years. It took Hakuho 3 years to go from maezumo to sekitori. Just because megastars aren't produced every other basho doesn't mean they're not good coaches. If you listen to Aonishiki interviews, you see Ajigawa giving good technical advice, instead of the typical "use more fighting spirit" and "work on doing his brand of sumo," so I'm inclined to believe he's a good coach.
>>
>>244492
>Being a top tier oyakata isn't about training your dudes, it's about recruiting the best dudes.
Brainlet take. Onosato wouldn't have been yokozuna if he was training at Shikihide.
>>
>>244517
In Aonishiki's case at least there's also both their styles of Sumo meshing really well, so his advices strike closer to home so to speak.

Myogiru had better attendance at his hair cutting than Takakeisho did despite having never won a makuuchi championship or reached ozeki
Takakeisho must be a horrid little bitch to be so much less popular than Myogiru despite far greater accomplishments in the sport
>>
>>244556
I know its normal for /sp/ posters to jump to conclusions that fit their chosen narrative, but god damn man.
In general the hair cutting ceremonies are attended by those who are directly invited, and then limited number of tickets are sold. It is up to the retiring wrestler to set the number of available tickets and price.
There are a number of factors that go into how many attendies htere are.
>>
I'm fine with basho in late 2022 and even early 2024 being won by Maegashira because our only truly dominant rikishi was Terunofuji who sometimes couldn't fight. But I am simply not okay with Kotoshoho taking home a cup. What a clown show.

>>
When you think about it Zak actually robbed Hosh of this yusho. If he hadn't decided to go forma de yokozuna for one single fight Hosh's win over Fatso would've won him the yusho on 14-1. He literally sacrificed an entire knee tendon to throw spite on Hosh's rope.

>>
>>244686
He'll have to retire eventually, and I'm sure old man Kise and the supporters' association will find him some form of employment, but even something like a security guard or a truck driver seems like it might be too much to ask. I suspect that in a country that properly acknowledges mental illnesses and disorders, he'd have been diagnosed with some kind of special needs a long time ago.
>>
>>244689
The JSA need to set up a pensions system for all the lifers. Like, if you did pro sumo for 15-20 years and didnt reach sekitori, you can qualify for some sorts of pension when you retire
>>
>>244692
They should put more effort into mocking and otherwise publicly humiliating the failures, that would inspire young wrestlers to try harder so they don't end up as losers. If you do it your way then sumo would end up being just a bunch of lazy Kogas who are only in it for the free guaranteed gibes
>>
>>244693
>lazy
Koga wakes up early every morning to do the grueling morning keiko. He cooks and cleans for twenty people regularly. Every other month, he wrestles in front of sumo elders. He's only allowed to visit his family once or twice a year. Thousands of strangers berate him online, and we have to assume he knows about it. He's been doing this for years, and he isn't even 20 yet. If Koga was a lazy man aiming for an easy life, sumo would be the last thing he'd choose.
>>
>>244684
Rikishi is the term typically reserved for professional sumo wrestlers.
Sumotori refers to anyone who does sumo at any level.

Anseikin visited the venue for a tournament for British amateur wrestlers.

Twenty-four men and women participated in the tournament, battling fiercely in front of their idols from Japan.

Anseikin
"I was really happy that my name is being recognized. I want to continue to promote sumo in Europe."

The London Grand Sumo Tournament will run for five days from the 15th.

Pretty based honestly. Any Makuuchi rikishi could walk into any form of wrestling club and be treated like royalty.

Japan has corporate sumo leagues.
>>

Anon, the outcome has already been decided. Hoshoryu will win his previous matches with visually spectacular techniques, before Onosato proves on the final day that Japanese strength and simplicity is superior. There's not a chance in hell that the JSA would allow a Mongolian to win such a rare and important international exhibition.

The funny thing is, I don't think he even speaks english very well. Like he can understand it because that's how he had to learn japanese (you can see it in NHK's docummentary), but unless he picked up a lot in the last 6 months he's not much more enlgando-literate than the regular rikishi
>>
>>244853
I dunno, mainland European kids have been accidentally learning English for 20+ years now. His English is certainly better than most Mong/Nip rikishi. Imagine Onosato going into a chippy.

Nobody working at the chippy would be English anyway, so it's a moot point. If they can understand Londoners they can understand a fat guy asking for the most calorific item on their menu.
>>
>>244859
The rikishi seem to have been instructed to hang around the Kensington area so it's very likely any food place they go into is owned and run by hwhites.

R8 my sanyaku reform

To get komosubi, you need a jun-yusho or better in the joi. MK at komosubi puts you back at maegashira.
Sekiwake requires a yusho at komusubi. MK at sekiwake demotes you to komusubi, but a simple KK will take you back up.
Ozeki demands two consecutive yuusho, with one at sekiwake. Kadoban works the same way as now.
No yokozuna, because being undemotable is gay.

Pictured here is Onosato Daiki, the 75th and final Yokozuna after the rule change regarding promotions enacted by Anon on October 2025
>>
>>245210
You're going about this the wrong way. Instead of removing ranks and making current ones harder to get, once you reach yokozuna there should be a dan system like black belts have. Initial promotion makes you a first dan yokozuna, then you have to meet the promotion criteria (two yusho or yusho-equivalent) again to rank up to second dan. For third dan, you have to get three Y or JY bashos in a row, for fourth and fifth you have to win four and five, and for sixth dan you have to do it for a whole year straight. A seventh dan yokozuna needs to fully sweep the year with six yushos, an eighth dan requires three out of six to be zensho yushos, and a ninth dan must get 90 wins in the year. Tenth dan is only awarded after retirement, to a ninth dan yokozuna who stays active until the JSA's mandatory retirement age, with a minimum of four completed tournaments every year.

His insistence on spreading sumo to the west makes sense as he is a western fan, although he obviously fails to grasp the implications that would actually have on sumo. His whole "JSA is racist" schtick is absolute bullshit, though.

As for the event itself, the whole British marketing side was straight up deceptive, which would make any further promotion bring the lies more into the limelight. Half the people who were there, if not more, don't even get that it was an exhibition.
>>
>>245573
Kakuryu didn't get promoted of off winning out against Kinbozan. Not that he's considered a particularly good 'zuna anyway. The crop is extremely weak right now and it was even weaker back when they gave him the rope. There's no excuse not to dominate. The timing of those injuries remains suspicious, therefore he still has a lot to prove.
>>
>>245528
Dan visiting a sumo club where most members probably already know him is a nice gesture but does nothing for the culture.
If you're against the idea of spreading sumo culture to the west then you should argue against the tournament taking place at all. Given that it did, his comments are valid.
>>
>>245576
All signs point to Onosato being an incredible yokozuna who gets 20+ yusho. Being the 2nd best rikishi at the same time as someone like that doesn't make you a bad yokozuna. Imagine if Hakuho hadn't existed. We'd all be raging about daiyokozunas Kakuryu and Kisenosato. Hell, Harumafuji would've have slapped a fatso for disrespecting Hakuho and would've been a daiyokozuna too. Onosato is going to suck the yusho out of everyone else the same way Hakuho did, but it doesn't make those guys bad. If Taiho had been around during Hakuho maybe he'd have only made 5 yusho.
>>
>>245578
>If you're against the idea of spreading sumo culture to the west then you should argue against the tournament taking place at all.
There are already enough sumo fans in London to fill the seats, I don't see why there need to be more. Why does sumo culture need to be spread? The bashoes at home are all sell-outs. If anything they need to be promoting it more amongst children in Japan, young recruits is the where the sport is lacking significant support.

>Being the 2nd best rikishi at the same time as someone like that doesn't make you a bad yokozuna
arguably it does make him a bad yokozuna
it all depends on how you grade your yokozuna
if there is only bad and good then it makes him bad
if there is bad good and satisfactory then maybe he makes the middle grade, which would make him mid.

one of the hilarious things about hoshoryu is that although his 12 and 13 win scores don't scream "yokozuna sumo", his 1-4-10 scores unfortunately do.

>>245581
>his 12 and 13 win scores don't scream "yokozuna sumo"
Wrong and gay.
>>
>>245581
>arguably it does make him a bad yokozuna
All I need to know to know your post is fucking dumb is contained within this first line. Go post your pseudo-frogs somewhere else.
>>
>>245580
>Why does sumo culture need to be spread?
Because otherwise why have the exhibition at all? To show pretend sumo to your fans while calling it a tournament, take some pictures in tourist London and get back home?
>>
>>245580
>Why does sumo culture need to be spread?
Because the yen is weak, therefore so long as the exhibition makes a profit it stands to be more lucrative than domestic basho.
>>
>>245579
>what if taiho hadn't been good?!?
>then he would've been bad!!!
hoshoryu's low quality performance isn't justified by you denying reality and coming up with fantasy scenarios in which other good yokozunas weren't good.
taiho was good
hoshoryu is bad

the jsa only promoted hoshoryu because they were afraid they wouldn't have a yokozuna in london. he wasn't promoted on the basis of undeniable merit like onosato was because hoshoryu can't put on a display of legitimate yokozuna sumo like onosato can. onosato will win 70+ this year and chase 80 next year, hoshoryu won't crack 60 and probably never will, onosato beat 60 his first year in makuuchi, dan will also beat 60 across his first 6 bashos, but hosh can't because he isn't good
>>
>>245588
its also part of the jsa's push to make sumo an olympic sport, which they've been after for a while.
>>
>>245590
JSA hasn't been pushing for that, ISF has.
>>
>>245589
>hoshoryu can't put on a display of legitimate yokozuna sumo like onosato can
That's odd, because he won the same number of matches this past basho.
>>
By definition any yokozuna who does not win 5 yusho as a yokozuna is a bad yokozuna.
>>
>>245592
And he didn't even give up a kinboshi like Onosato did
>>
>>245589
hoshoryu got promoted because the ydc publicly stated he would get promoted if he had met the requirement and he did, give it up
>>
>start the basho 11-0
>"hay everyone look at me!!!! I'm gonna win le yusho!!!"
>finish 1-4, lose
>everyone laughs at you and calls you horseshit
>>
this but you being a schizo and everyone else in the thread laughing at you
>>
Dan has more wins in makuuchi than Hosh does so far this year and Dan wasn't even in the division for January
>>
>>245596
>finish 1-4
Are you from a different timeline?
>>
>>245598
>Someone who's only been in the league a short time is injured less often than a veteran
WOW Great insight, Einstein.
>>
>>245588
Chris said they needed Japanese sponsors to break even.
>>
>>245599
the henka was loss spiritually
>>
>>245601
>the sponsor money wasn't real because it comes from country i don't like
>t. chris
>>
>>245604
Ok but clearly if that's the case they aren't making mad cash.
>>
>>245573
>It took Kakuryu 9 basho at zuna to get a yusho
Kakuryu had 2 other yokozuna and 2-4 ozeki he needed to get through. Hosh only has Onosato and the ghost of Kotozakura.
>>
>>245579
>just because he's not Hakuho doesn't mean he's bad!
Absolutely tired of this rhetoric. Hoshoryu hasn't even proven that he's on Kakuryu/Kisenosato/Harumafuji level yet.
>>
>>245608
The fact that you're grouping those vastly different rikishi into one set just proves how dumb you are.
>>
>>245608
>Hoshoryu hasn't even proven that he's on Kisenosato's level yet.
Yes he has.
>>
>>245608
>Absolutely tired of this rhetoric
Then you might as well kill yourself now, because that's just reality, Anon.
>>
>>245608
None of those men had made yokozuna yet at Hoshoryu's age. I propose that we have a moratorium on comparing Hoshoryu with past yokozuna until 2030.
>>
>>245613
Seconded.
>>
>>245613
Hoshoryu will intai before 2030.

Buddy, I tried to buy tickets and they were sold out within an hour of release, I couldn't get any. The ads went up in the tube way after it was even possible to buy tickets, lmao. Those promos were a waste and any more promos would have been a waste, they would've had to run a month-long jungyo here or put the tournament in Stamford Bridge or some shit to spread the culture more.

>>245580
This really.
>>
>>245610
>won 2 basho in a row
>won a basho at yokozuna
I don't think so sweaty
>>
>>245613
>None of those men had made yokozuna yet at Hoshoryu's age
Because they had a much higher level of competition to get through which is the whole crux of the argument. You're acting like Hoshoryu faced the same level as adversity, when really Terunofuji was injured for Hosh's entire rope run and Onosato hadn't become a zuna yet.
>>
You're a pathetic crybaby, and I have no pity for you.

That tends to happen with retards spout endless gibberish thread after thread despite being shown how retarded they are in thread after thread. The gayest part is the racism, imo. Being racist of behalf of another race is the height of homosexuality.

>OMG Kisenosato was so terrible!!
>He had more yushos than Horseryu
>He can pull off a 14 win basho, Horseryu can't
>He could beat Teruronofuji (13-3 against him) while Horseryu never beat Teruronofuji and he only ever fought him when he was an old cripple, Kisenosato was whipping prime Teruronofuji
so Kisenosato was way way better than Horseryu, which means that if you think Kisenosato wasn't good then you have to agree that Horseryu is utter garbage and an embarrassment to the title 'yokozuna'
>>
>>245639
>Kisenosato was whipping prime Teruronofuji
lol, no. Check your timelines, chungus. He didn't start dominating Terunofuji until he got hurt.
>>
>>245625
prime ozeki kisenosato would probably shit on both hoshoryu and onosato today
>>

I started watching on april the first basho with Horse as Yokozuna, so im as fucking casual as it gets, but im super invested now.
I have no problem whatsoever with anybody saying that Onosato is poised to end up with a fantastic legacy and that he is probably right now a better Rikishi than Hoshoryu.
That said im way more escited about Hoshoryu's matches, i find Onosato's style of sumo of just pressing W on his keyboard to be a bit lacking.
Thats all, im aware nobody cares about my opinion, suck my hairy nuts.

I don't usually hate on his videos, but this one is ridiculous. Bilingual ambassadors my ass, just let the rikishi have some fun, I bet some of them did not have a vacation like this in years.
>>
>>245661
Japs have this weird concept of vacations should be rare and should only be 2 or 3 days long, Golden Week aside.
>>
>>245661
A trip like that is one in a lifetime stuff for nips. Just let the yokozuna feed each other hotdogs and shut up.

This "weird concept" is referred to in Japan by the term "en'yasu dorudaka" (円安ドル高), which can be roughly translated into English as "the nation's economy has been fucking shit since 1991."
They literally can't afford it unless they're giga-rich by Japanese standards, or it's being paid for by someone else.
