“Ukes”, in general. I don’t need the self inserting fujoshit author reminding me that she has a nasty fish taco and female emotions. Get women, their retarded ideas of gay relationships, and their smelly vaginas out of my gay books.

Fix the rec list. One Room Angel, Lamento, Kaze to ki no uta, Mao dao ching chong, Yarichin, and Sensitive pornograph are all prison gay/fujoid shit.

I know this is a shitpost, but I kind of agree with it. Korean manhwa are especially bad with the toxic heterosexual relationship writing and their untagged cuntboy fetishes.
>>
>What is a common personality type you don't like seeing in BL, and what would you do to improve/change it?
thirdwheels in general, also the supportive straight male friend/coworker who plays wingman for the MC. i can't imagine this happening even in a fairly gay-tolerant country, let alone nipponland. unlike the bait above i couldn't give less of a fuck about fujos fetishizing gays, but the lack of realism annoys me.

on an unrelated note, anybody got any recs for father/son BL? seems like the only incest most authors care about is brocon :(
>>
What are some of the hottest masturbation scenes you've read lately? I especially enjoy ones where the love is mutual but they initially hid feelings from each other and got off thinking of one another in secret, and the reveal and development are slow, not the usual single volume books, but not so slow like that Chinese manhwa taking over 100 chapters for the confession.

Does anyone feel like fujos interest in BL games and videogames in general faded?

I feel like in the PS2 era fujos were the queen of making yaoi porn of the most random franchise, you could go on livejournal and 99% of the times you'd find fics of some rare pairing.
But nowadays you barely get anything out of most videogames. BL VN also stopped being big. Like 2 BL VN released recently and it feels like even in JP they aren't that massive.

I wonder what changed? On other and it feels like BL manga are bigger than ever. Is it just my impression or?
>>
>>3051422
Yeah I agree. To be honest I believe that there are way more options for viewing BL work than there used to be. So more options to view art and fics of popular series means less people actually making things like games. Back then you had to make your own media since there was barely anything to find. Now that many BL series have been translated and serialized vs Japanese fan scans in the early 2000s. Theres a lot of BL VNs but they aren't always easy to get and no one seems to translate them either.

What would make a BL "more realistic"? Spin the coming out/acceptance scenes to a more negative perspective? Or something else?

Anyhow, I don't read much of it but the only father/son BLs I can think of the top of my head are all doujins, with many being bara. Not sure if that's something you seek, anon.
>>

>>
>>3051450
>What would make a BL "more realistic"? Spin the coming out/acceptance scenes to a more negative perspective? Or something else?

probably a middle ground between portraying realistic homophobia (since i doubt anyone wants that in their jerkoff material unless it's specifically their fetish or whatever) and writing the characters as out to coworkers and casual friends, who are all completely accepting. i'm not saying that no japanese gay man has ever had straight male friends, but i imagine that they don't discuss gay dating life in much detail with those friends. stuff where the straight guy wingman sets the MC up with the ML or vice versa, encourages him to confess his feelings, etc, always rings false to me.

also doujins are fine and appreciated. :) my tolerance of bara really depends on how hard the artist goes into musclebeast territory.

Currently reading the second book of the 獣はかくして series and it's alright. Good for what it is. I picked this up primarily because I don't like feminine uke and it is certainly delivering on that front at least. But the other reason was all the reviews raving about how dark and serious it is for the genre. And, I mean, they are technically correct, but that says more about the state of BL novels than anything. Manga readers don't realize just how good they have it.
>>
>>3051996
What is the JP BL novel scene like? I never tried them out, they don't seem to get translated much either.
>>
>>3052057
I'm only a casual observer, but depending on your point of view it is either flourishing or in a terrible place. The anthology magazines are doing fine and there's a constant stream of new releases, about 30-60 each month. More and more old books from the 90s are also becoming available as digital.
So that's good. What isn't good is the variety. The market right now is dominated by couples with children SoL, omegaverse, RPG/isekai shit, Harlequin romances, and translated Chinese BL. If you are looking for anything different hope that one the few wild card releases will hit the spot. Every once in a blue moon some of the big publishers will release a book that doesn't fit the BL label guidelines under their general audience label, 木原音瀬 comes to mind as an author with multiple books under 講談社文庫 and not their BL label White Heart.
But this isn't a trend exclusive to BL. From what I've heard it was also the lack of variety that killed the long running Cobalt shoujo anthology for example.

Skimmed the first chapter and MC is actually trans, incision scars on the breasts and everything. And it's western shit, so it's not a shocker or anything. What perplexes me is that there's two versions on MRM, with the second one being actual BL. Why upload both versions when one doesn't fit? They're already available in English by the artist themselves too, so why this upload?
Anyhow, to this day, I don't understand why MRM has furry and western stuff. There's a dedicated and more thorough website for the former while the latter can get easily struck down along with the site because there's less of a language barrier for the artist to find it. Not to mention, a lot of them are just aggregating from official translations/already in English with no work put into it except for uploading. But god fobid you aggregate for an already translated Japanese work. I'm tired.

The second book's plot was such a total retread of the first one damn, but huge improvement anyhow. Bonus points for the pulic sex and Satanist larp sex. Sometimes I get the feeling the author would like to go much harder but the editors are keeping her on a tight leash. It's painfully obvious for example that she would have added some extended choking by now if they would just ket her, like who the fuck does it multiple times only to always drop it after two lines. That just doesn't happen. It's kind of funny that anything interesting always happens offscreen. Renjou rips a guy's throat open with his bare teetch, but of course this is only mentioned to have happened offscreen. Kagura compuslively scratches himself until his whole body is covered in welts and he is bleeding all over the matress, but this is only brought up after the fact even though he is the protagonist. No fun allowed.
Still. This series is finally beginning to click with me and I already have the third part, but the way things are progressing there's a negative chance it won't end in a cliffhanger. Of the three antagonists introduced so far two remain untouchable and even the one that was temporarily captured managed to escape. And a fourth even bigger bad is already being teased. I don't know, but it would be a shock if this ended before making it to book 5.

Alright so this third book. Very strong first half, very slow second. After the second book left him traumatized, Kagura now depends on Zero to fuck him senseless every night to escape his own incompetence. Zero for his own part is happy to oblige, but Kagura begins to realize that he can't continue on like this. So this is the starting point. It gets worse. The author really put him through the wringer this time. And as Kagura's idealism crumbles the entire scope of the story collapses down to "I will do anything it takes to get just one shot to knife this one guy for revenge, then I no longer care what happens after. Anything more is unrealistic." This was nicely done. And a good thing too because apparently the next book will be the last one. Coming Winter 2025. That's one long fucking wait, I hope this means it will be a two-parter. But at least no cliffhanger, just a tweest you could see coming from a thousand miles away.

And now let's talk about violence and gore, because until this book I was going to let this slide, but now it's just plain ridiculous.
There's this scene in the second book, where a jailbait debtor is about to get her legs broken and shipped off to Hong Kong to become torture-porn fodder, and Kagura predictably intervenes. Tohno (pic) finds all of this very amusing and gives the jailbait a choice: either she does nothing and gets sent to Hell as planned, or she strangles the man who tried to save her, then she will be escorted to a room where she can peacefully OD on a drug of her choice. She goes for the latter, and it's literally, LITERALLY a single line until Tohno is satisfied and she gets taken off. This is an event Kagura has recurring nightmares about for a good chunk of book three, and it's a single fucking line.

Then in book three we have a scene where Kagura has to face Renjo (pic) in an arena fight that's meant to be public humiliation, because Renjo effortlessly curbstomps him and he gets pushed against the electric fence until he passes out. This is apparently a big deal, since for the next few chapters multiple characters comment on how Renjo crossed the line, how badly Kagura's back was burned, and how he thought he was going to die. Well I wouldn't know, because all of this happened in something like three or four sentences that didn't even make me think it was anything particularly serious while it was happening.
Man I love these two psychopaths, they deserve more screentime. But this is the issue, this weird as shit lack of pacing and flow any time something genuinely violent happens. These scenes don't feel natural, they read like someone highlighted two paragraphs of text and pressed Delete. And it's not something the author otherwise struggles with, this really only happens in scenes like these. Even if it's disappointing I can live with the book telling me that a very intense fight happened between Zero and Renjo entirely offscreen, but shit like this is just awkward.

Ah whatever. Anyway I just found out that 小説Dear+, the magazine that published this series just keeled over and died. It ran for 25 years. RIP.

In such a lackluster way that I can't even be excited anymore. Amazing what stretching a story without thinking it through can do.

>>3053585
Depends, as long as you don't have high expectations you should be fine. I dropped it back then because not only they had neutered the homo (and removing the underlying erotism), the horror aspect of it had been toned down a lot and the story dropped the tension it had going with how it was managing fake Hikaru development. From what I read of the spoilers after that the author just dumped lore nonstop and is going to go "haha monster Hikaru was never dangerous" which feels cheap and destroys most of the charm it had.
Now that it's going to end and I've stopped being angry with the wasted potential I will pick it up again to see how it went.
>>
>>3053585
the series was nevernlisted as a BL in japan to begin with. It's hardly BL centered, just has a main character who's gay. Wasn't even published in a BL magazine either
>>
>>3053640
>the series was nevernlisted as a BL

it was listened as BL in several places including some places the authors tagged it as herself, as well several outlet reporting as BL even.

Also the main point is that it has been de gay anyway, it's obviously she's trying to distance herself from the homo
>>
>>3053363
I tried to but it was just too boring. MC is way too passive like negative agency and not in the endearing way. The men are hot though. My favorite isekai BLs are the ones where MC is teleported into the body of antagonists in villainess stories or as the protagonist heros friend so I my opinion might be skewed.

I probably don't read nearly as much BL as I thought or just don't pay much attention, but are there other BLs where the main guy is explicitly bi? And not necessarily heteroflexible/is straight but gay if it's you" trope. I don't even mind it since I'm aware BL is fantasy and not necessarily meant to be realistic, but I find it's easier to get the relationship going if at least both or one of the guys are already into men. Bonus if they're a cute alt guy like Minori. picrel
