Black Whip is the first quirk he unlocks and frankly the only one that really matters, as every other quirk is a one trick pony in comparison. Danger sense is also so on the nose I'm not even sure if you can call it a homage at that point. The previous anon said seven quirks was necessary because Hori couldn't make super strength interesting, but I think the opposite is true. Hori was on the verge of writing a creative powerset by forcing Deku to extrapolate different usages out of a single basic power, like shoot style or air force. Then he proceeds to throw all that away with seven quirks.The kicker is that the spin-off MC also has a powerset that acts as a Spiderman reference. Except instead of focusing on Spidey's most trademark powers, the writer took an underrated part of Spidey's kit (Wall crawling) and built an entirely unique power off it.
