As someone who watches anime but doesn't know about the ins and outs of the industry... Why did anime usually catch up to manga and need filler or original endings and now it takes years and years for a series to be completely adapted? What has changed? Why didn't they just pause the series before and why don't they commit more resources now?
episodes and chapters came out at the same speed (usually once a week) but an episode would cover more than one chapter, so they inevitably caught up (even faster if the manga was monthly like with FMA)now they split the anime into "seasons" and take breaks between them
