Not to mention using yen as currency I guess the digital clock timer bomb would have also placed it more recently though. This was a weird one.

>>268226514yeah, but even amongst the decline of most genres in that time period, bl had it one of the worst imo. it was the peak of jerkass hyper-masculine seme and useless uber-feminine uke that might as well have just been a het couple playing out comically antiquated gender dynamics and everyone had giant hands, lips, etc. almost every stereotype people have about yaoi comes from that era. someone made a chart depicting the trends in bl for each decade starting with the '70s and it was hilarious how much '00s sticks out like a sore thumb as utter trash with no redeeming qualities, i wish i could find it.

I keep going back and forth on how I feel on this one. I think it's stupidly written but has some positives, and the fact that it even has a plot already puts it above many of the others. I like that the twink had some balls to go for the kiss at the end and that the love interest was a decent guy instead of a stoic jerk like too many seme of this era. But aside from that, the characters are not well-written and dumb as bricks, the villain in particular feels like a joke character and the story was pretty basic even if it's more than what we're used to. I guess it entertained me well enough, so I'll probably remember this one more fondly than I actually felt reading it. It certainly whets my appetite for more varied settings and stories in these, I really just want one that's like this but written better.
i have to rate everything that's not a school romance higher than average, unfortunate but it's just inherentwhich makes the potion one extra good since it's still one of the best
