>>268309727god i loved magu-chan so much. it had a good run but it really filled a void that keroro/sgt frog left me...I mentioned Murakami because I just got off the sunday jump dump and my disappointment in psych house made me want to vent about murakami but there wasn't a thread for it. I don't know how it is in Japanese, but Murakami is like aggressively unfunny. The premise is that the main exorcist is a wimp and can't exorcise anything by themselves, so their best friend weakens the yokai by roasting them with words until the yokai feel like killing themselves. i'm not sure if it's a translator issue or the source material is just that bad, but for a gag manga it only seems to have a singular gag, and they've been repeating it for three chapters in a row, with none of them particularly sticking. When the whole crux of the humor is based on reading mounds of dry text, it feels like a waste of time to bother with it for no pay off. it's not even comedically bad like earthchild, or full of sovl moments like i tell c where it's worth reading it every week for the train wreck. it's just an uninspiring manga where the mangaka who previously wrote another aggressively unfunny one-joke bomb (shugomaru) will probably survive and outlast better manga, avoiding the U19 club simply because of scheduling and lack of controversy (like paradox ghostwriter). i'm all for author improvements and have championed axed manga before (I desperately wanted the Zipman!!! mangaka and ryuhei tamura to succeed), and seen some axed mangaka turn it around (bozebeats author drawing fate/redline, Ne0;Lation mangaka drawing Marriagetoxin), but man i can only hope that this mangaka pops off in chapter 4 and makes everyone eat their words.
Now that I think about it, Kotone developed her psych around the time her mom fell Ill, right? We don't see Moa's mom either, just her father. And we know nothing about Nemuru's parents. Wonder if developing the Psychs is somehow connected to their mothers not being around.
