Yeah I think the mangaka got the axe notice so now he's not putting in the effort with the art. A shame bc I was liking it.

It's hard to tell exactly when they get the axe notice, I know it can be pretty early on, so it still could've been a sign that he was axed for both series. But AA definitely looked like it was experimenting with new ways to attract readers after changing editors, and it wasn't until Chapter 13 or so that the writing was truly on the wall.In this case, it reads to me like there's a bit of panic but not like it's quite axed. Namely because instead of everyone arriving to confront Ryu it's focusing on one specific member.

If so I agree to a point, an enemy attacking during the training process and Kaoru accomplishing the task(lift up the rock) during the attack felt pretty inevitable to me. An ongoing, by-the-books training segment seems to be out of fashion with Jump. Kaoru being kidnapped and Yoji taking action with another Kyoen member feels to me like it's probably not what was originally intended, though.

Midori jobbing to some degree had to happen because her being in danger is what would lead to Kaoru throwing the rock, but the stabbing is pretty extreme. She hasn't used all of her powers and was basically blitzed, so there's potential for her to come back and showcase more/strengthen herself with time.
