he was falling into the ocean, overshot in a panic. If he doesn't freeze the ocean then the navy is out an admiral in the opening salvo for the only benefit being immobilizing the ships forcing them to cross on foot instead of landing on the walls themselves. Whitebeard wasn't wrong calling him an upstart

ENTER the world's true strongest swordsman, Vista

>>268312120
>World's most powerful sword slash
Is that a mistranslation and it's meant to be "slash from the most powerful swordsman" or something? It seems like a pretty low effort attack from Mihawk all things considered, it's not even named

>>268312206
Thanks OP!

>>268312440
Honestly I think the navy would've had a hard time sinking Whitebeard's ships before they made landfall if Aokiji hadn't frozen the bay, they arrived way closer to the plaza than Sengoku had expected after all due to the coating. It perfectly fits the Navy's plan to trap them in the bay, even if the ice causes problems for that on it's own. It's basically Aokiji quickly adapting to make the original plan work. Freezing the bay also prevents the allies from sailing closer.

>>268313215
>the most powerful fuckers we've seen thus far don't even necessitate whitebeard stopping them
I've never even thought of it like that, but you're right. I really like how well Whitebeard is established here.
I also like that this is the first time we've seen a pirate crew actually able to stand up to the fullest might of the navy. So far all the strongest people the SHs encountered were government affiliated and they seemed completely overwhelming as long as they cared enough to invest the resources. One admiral was enough to take down numerous crews on Luffy's level without breaking a sweat but even with all their resources gathered the navy can't just take Whitebeard down.
>>
>>268313781
>I've never even thought of it like that, but you're right. I really like how well Whitebeard is established here.
Yep
>Kizaru fucked over 11 different crews, including completely slaughtering the strawhats, without a care and gets stopped by one marco
>aokiji didn't even let luffy get a single punch in and WB doesn't have to touch him to force him away
>mihawk destroyed an entire fleet and gave zoro an injury that crippled him for multiple arcs and one Jozu/jose TANKEDs it to the face
He not only shows us the level at which WB, and thus the paramount war, is playing at but also hides Sakazuki and Sengoku for later reveals on their own.
>>
>>268314409
spoilers faggot
>>
>>268313948
I don't know, even back then I never got a grasp of WB's crew. Jozu just kind of takes Mihawk's hit and then gets easily taken out by Aokiji, like, OK? Can Jozu actually do anything? The extent of Vista's power we're shown is stopping Mihawk, like what's his deal? Later he and Marco cuts straight through Akainu's fucking neck with haki and he's just "aahh how annoying." What can these guys even do? The admirals are shitstomping them harder than the strawhats.

Compare this to Big Mom's crew much later. This one sees the future, that's fucking scary, this one generates infinite gear fourth-tanking clones, that's fucking scary. I can see without the story constantly telling me how this crew is essentially invincible and has ruled their part of the seas for so long.

I love Marine Ford so fucking much bros, it's so good.
It's such a natural yet unexpected conclusion to Part 1 of the manga and one of the best pieces of Fiction ever written.
I really hope Oda gives us something just half as good as Marine Ford in the Final Saga but knowing his current streak I highly doubt it.
Wano is really the true embodiment of current One Pieces problems.
>Retcons
>Too many characters
>Useless plot points and build up for no payoff
>Too much focus on Odas favorite characters and not the ones who desperately need screen time
>Drags on for way too long with endless filler full of characters and plots no one cares about
>Forced to speed run the ending because of Film Red and the Editors.
>>
>>268334239
Egghead was really good until the latest chapters where it just shat the bed, really convinced me that Oda still has his yes-men editors from Wano.

I've been hearing this a few times, what's the issue? Is it about Bonnie's fruit? That seemed perfectly fine to me. I guess there's oda's degrading art quality & paneling but I don't think the ladder has been that different compared to the last few arcs.
>>
>>268339091

>>268312156

>>
It's over...
>>
I still genuinely think this is the most overrated arc in One Piece even though it was fun to read as it came out.
>>
>>268343653
It was absolute dogshit in anime form, straight up doesn't work on that format.
>>
>>268343700
Well besides just that, I have a few problems with it. Whitebeard is basically a mary sue, we know almost nothing about the Whitebeard pirates and its individual members so the arc felt really shallow to me, hell we've barely seen Ace and Whitebeard for that matter, they really don't have much presence in the manga before this. Fights end up being off-screened or inconclusive and characters are always where they need to be even if shown elsewhere just a few chapters before. Sure the war being "chaotic" is used to excuse that but it's basically just plot-convenience. Marineford is where wounds and injuries just plain stopped mattering in fights. The Shichibukai hardly do anything. Etc.

The arc was built entirely on hype and showing one cool thing after another each chapter but it's not exactly what I'd call a good story.
>>
>>268343653
In my memory thr first two chapters from whitebeard summoning the tsunamis and aokiji freezing them this shit took a literal eternity
>>
>>268344010
it's a good arc to show how strong a Yonkou is, they mobilized pretty much every big name in the marines for just one of them showing up

>>
>>268346403
isn't Akainu paramecia, similar to Magellan?
>>
>>268355673
No. Magma is a natural element so he's Logia. Venom is produced by creatures so that's why Magellan is paramecia. Turning invulnerable by becoming the thing is also part of being a Logia but the main thing is it being a natural element. Blackbeard's Logia doesn't allow him to become darkness and become intangible.
This is something even Oda forgot when he made Katakuri into a Logia, before realizing his mistake and saying he was a special paramecia. Now was he special because he could BECOME Mochi? Along with Luffy, he is the only paramecia I can think of to do that, but then we later learn Luffy isn't a paramecia. At the end of the day, it's a categorization system made up by humans in one piece.
>>
>>268349364
Have you seen the okamas?
>>
>>268346403
That can also be chalked up to hyping. Each of the admirals had big displays of their elemental affinity. And given the page formatting, Oda had room to use before the next spread.
>>268356291
Even THEN the "element of nature" detail is from a single SBS table as element/nature, which when you add swamp, gas, and soot becomes kind of arbitrary what an element really entails. Mochi being a logia I have no problem with either, but it's also kind of a feature that isn't even strictly necessary for Katakuri's level given his CoO and size of his constructs.

Oda didn't think it would be a big (in terms of attention) arc when writing it. It wasn't there to have in depth fights (it's for showcasing) and for the most part SHs are the ones to get most of their fights shown. I couldn't give a shit about Ace but he'd been fan favourite for years already with like 10? chapters of presence.
>>
>>268344010
>Whitebeard is basically a mary sue, we know almost nothing about the Whitebeard pirates and its individual members so the arc felt really shallow to me
Ignoring his love for his family being his biggest weakness (both using Squard as an example and the entire premise of Marineford being WB falling for the most obvious trap), Whitebeard is a measuring stick for a reason. He's got massive power and influence, and is the biggest holdover from Roger's generation. This saga was set up with Sabaody, showing the other side of the New World as a waypoint, while removing him from the board and invite a lot of worldchanging shit. The crew is shallow, yes, but they're doing the exact same shit that the Straw Hats have done: rush in to save some crew. Where the Straw Hats have Enies Lobby, the WB pirates have Marineford, this is all paralleling where the crew is meant to go and how "macro" the New World is in scope.
>The warlards hardly do anything
That's not a flaw, that's the system at work and contributes to the narrative.
>>
>>268356989
>>268356291
That's why people sticking hard to the categorizations we're shown is hilarious. Logia's are all over the place in what is 'natural'. After the first instance of BB not 'behaving properly as defined' you should have started expecting the lines to blur, or be utterly incorrect.

That is as long as the idea that fruits don't offer their name to the eater doesn't get retconned. But I do think the idea that fruits have a will/remnant of who 'made it' will come into play a bit more.

It's already been confirmed that the classification system is just an arbitrary division into 3 broad groups, and that some fruits don't neatly fit into these groups.
